This is promising news. Let's hope we have some new, incredibly bright and long-lasting lights coming down the pike soon.

I won't pretend to understand the details, but if it foreshadows more efficient LEDs then I am in!
Unfortunately this has been assumed to be the cause for a while, just was not proven conclusively. To that end, I do not know if it will accelerate developments.

I guess at least knowing what the cause is is a step towards fixing it, now they just have to... figure out how to stop it 
A big note for me is not so much the "getting more light out", but the "stopping heat-generating collisions". Kinda the same thing I know, but to me heat is the major factor for the progress of LED.
