I like the simple elegance (and projected price point) of the V1. I would likely end up buying several (brother, nephews). The leather wrap might look good with a brass tube, ala the classic spyglass...

+1

Brass would look great with either leather or wood. I'm not sure how popular it would be, but I think it would look nicer than titanium for the v2 model.

Hi Walter, your rendering skills amaze me :) (Im envious :D )

Some of these models reminded me of some previous designs I made in the past, not that I'm complaining or something, just posting it for the fun of it:

Thanks for the interest and the nice words... regarding your questions.

V-bin: Well we've heard some rumors from a unspecified supplier... however the main question is if we can get enough of those... especially with color tints we'd like. As it looks we'd have to open up the color tint a bit from x0 to also include y0 maybe v0 to get enough vbins for this next gatlight round and an initial round of this light... what you think would x0, y0 and v0 be ok for color tint if we can get V-bins?

Knob: Yes the user interface is, on/off by pushing the button in the back, while rotating the knob in the back adjusts the brightness. You can also use the knob to turn the light off if you want. The UI is the same as in the GatLight V3s. In fact there is a 3rd function, if you press the knob (not the button inside of the knob) the brightness momentarily decreases... the same feature is currently found in the GatLight V3s and we likely keep that feature.

Sending from Switzerland: No those will be made in the US and ship out of Ohio.

Strength of Sapphire: Well, obviously we can't anser that question until we've made a first unit. However I have sapphire glass in my watch and I dropped it countless times. The surface on the light would be smaller and it is a cylinder which should structurally be more impact resistant then a flat surface. So our assumption is that it should be ok. Besides sapphire has excellent heatsinking capabilities (that exceed aluminum)

Is Sapphire in tube form:
Yes it is a sapphire tube that slides onto the titanium body... which provides some structure underneath, f.e. where the engraving is. The front screws off which is where the tube slides in, while the Orings provide the water sealing.

Will it be a prepaid: Yes very likely, however we might do 2 options, prepay for a more affordable price, and a pay-when the light ships option that will cost a bit more so people who don't like to do prepays have the option to get in on this run as well.

Brass versions: It depends on how many people would like that. I'll see if I can do a rendering in brass just for fun in a little while... however I think most people prefer titanium..

Removable Clip: We've been thinking about how to make that work.. maybe we can add a groove then find/do a clip that can snap on, however don't know how sturdy that would be. However there is not much material anywhere especially not in the back so that is likely less an option unless we make the light thicker. An option that is easier could be that we weld on a clip but that would not be removable which kind of sucks as well...
So the choice would be between removable and thicker or thinner and permanent. Now the htickness of a light I think is pretty important so I'd lean more towards a permanent option...

PEU previous designs: I had no idea that you and AuroraLight had a similar idea before (for transparent sleeve). I guess its hard to come up with a new variation on a cylinder type light. Though there are some differences, sapphire has some distinct advantages compared to acrylic. Scratch resistance and heat conductivity being the most prominent ones. Also as far as it looks this design has an underlaying metal structure where the transparency are windows cut into the tube (the day time rendering below shows that underlying metal structure) - kind of the only way to keep it all water sealed and submersible. The windows in the renderings are fairly large, in reality those might have to be a bit smaller... we'll see.

I remember your wood version from the shotshow 2006 (JS Burly's brought one along). When we first came up with the sapphire version, we simply tried to find versions that would be a bit more affordable... its basically a v3 without windows and the sapphire sleeve replaced by wood, leather or anything else that can be made to fit.
PEU, aren't you guys in Argentina the world renown specialists for leather? :naughty: Maybe you know of a leather supplier that can send us leather sleeves? I currently have no idea where to get leather sleeves from if we were to make the v2 leather a reality....
Also it would be fun to see what your Neoca would look like in leather :whoopin:

Disclaimer
Oh and again just a disclaimer.. this is just a rendering... and we might still have to make some changes... like stillphoto mentioned with the original gatlight design... this is the vision....what we want.. interest, quantities, pricing, suppliers... will determine the outcome... but as I know you guys as happened with the GatLight we'll get there...

Here is another rendering... day time view... of the v3

and another one, different rendering settings...

Well all I can say is that if the V3 final version is as nice as its rendering
it will be the 2nd must-have light for me in 2008.

Hi Walter

I was looking at the colour tint on the charts from this thread here

On the SSC P4 (Pure White) it only lists X0 and V0. I really am a novice when it comes to bin codes, but I can't see the Y0. Would that be called a different name on this chart?

At the time I asked some local artisans and the price was very reasonable. You should check with some upholstery shop near you, Im sure they will be able to make a nice leather skin. Think of car shift sticks, they usually make small leather parts.

Are these renderings made in Solidworks? Amazing!

Personally, I like the clipless design, at least on the V3 version. I think of it as more of a jewelry / hight end / executive version, where having a clip would interfere more when say, carrying it in a pair of dress slacks. I envision these in hight end carry options like: http://artofthehide.com/Holester.html

The V1 could be more of the "work horse" design that includes things like a clip.

That would give 3 solid trim levels each with a somewhat specific end user. Not to say I wouldnt buy a V1 and a V3...lets hope this light takes at least a year to come to fruition, when hopefully my wallet will bear many fruits as well lol.

Tritium: I think the ideal spot to put one of those would be inside of the glass cylinder where the transparent part is... or would you guys think the outside would be better....I think having a faint glow come from the center would look out of this world.

Renderings: Yes the renderings are Solidworks and thanks for the upolstery shop hint thats a good idea.

on the ohter Types (V2 and V1)...

Perhaps somewhere around the Tailcap...?
