Does an md2 with m91bw count as lego? This is a great setup. More spill and similar brightness to an m61w, maybe slightly brighter. The m91 ran on a 16650 for about 90 minutes so it will do even better with the 18650 of an md2.

Even on an 18350 my m91bw feels like it runs forever. The 91's are seriously such a good drop in.

I bought the m91bw to use in a surefire c3 that I'm still looking for, but there are so many other ways to use it also. Never would I have imagined it'd be so versatile.

Until very recently I wasn't aware that the driver in the regular Hound Dog v3 had been updated to accept lower voltage. I've been having a bit of fun with it since that discovery. Did this happen around the same time that the M91B driver changed?

This one is a 4000K v3, and I have a 5000K v3 with old style head that doesn't work at 4.2V and below.

Malkoff website states for the XPL version, a voltage range of 5.5-12V. I wonder what's different between them? I heard rumors that the new versions of M91B, and Hound Dogs (including super) were updated so they could run on one battery, but it's nothing official and the website's info hasn't changed. Anyone with solid info on that?

The new m91bn and bw both run well on one li-ion battery.

I've heard that, but has anyone done an "official" runtime and regulation test? Rumors say the last versions are better at running with only one battery (including the Hound Dog regular and super), but no one knows for sure since Malkoff's website has no updated info.

Well what do you mean by better? they will run longer at a lower output on a single lithium. I ran a super hound dog on a single 21700 and it ran for like 5-6 hour. It started at close to full output but only held that for 20-30 minutes before it started dropping. It ended at 100 lumens or so They will not run in regulation like this as far as I can see.

Better = regulated and not direct drive. Usually there's a voltage range, and running it below, will be direct driven, and thus not regulated.

I've done a runtime test with an m91bw and a 2160 mah 16650. It ran for an hour at good regulated brightness before it stepped down and tapered to a very low level over the course of an additional 30 minutes. It was brighter than an M61 before it tapered down.
