I was at my local flashlight dealer yesterday and bought a new Petzl headlamp. I was there to buy a SAK or Leatherman but instead got another light. This thing doesn't seem of the best build quality although it was under $60 with tax IIRC. It is around the max amount of brightness I would want with a headlamp used for working and it's only advantage is that you can use 1.7V lithiums in them.

Anyone else have one? Oh and it is made in France, not too many lights can claim that nowadays.

Yeah i got one of these late last year. When i first took it out of the box i thought it felt cheap too. Ive been using it for several months now and i haven't had any problems.

I bought a tikka 350 lumen and an actik core 600 lumen about 4 months ago and both work great. No problems to speak of. Quite comfortable to wear actually. Im waiting for the rechargeable core batteries to go on sale, 29.99 currently.

I've had an Actik Core for several years now that's functioned well even below 0F. I think the one you got may also accept the monolithic rechargeable battery pack that delmar mentioned, which I've had for years as well with zero problems.

It's a bit odd that most of the Petzl headlamps oriented towards outdoor pursuits feel bizarrely cheap but turn out to be pretty durable and reliable. I guess that's just what you get for optimizing for low weight.

I got a Tikka Core last year. It's fine for a small headlight, but I wish the CRI were better, or that it were easily openable and moddable. The box says 450 lumens max. Mine says Made In Malaysia.
