If I have an old school incandescent Surefire E1E, would this LED be a dropin fit (using the original head and reflector) or do I need to replace the whole head?

Any other options for a single mode unit?

I have an old Veleno Designs LED drop in replacement, but the LED itself was damaged and doesn't work.

Various options available from Malkoff that would likely last you a lifetime. I'm no expert but think all would require head replacement. You could go with a Scout head and drop in, or my choice which would be the VME head with choice of various power M31 or M61 heads depending on the lumens and battery you wish to use.
I think a VME with M61nl would be an ideal all round EDC.

I've purchased two of these for two previously retired E2E. The first purchase was accidental as I wanted an E2E dropin. After arrival, I dropped in a dummy cell along with a primary for usage. I liked this application such that I purchased a second E1E dropin for my other E2E incan.

For the price, I recommend it.
