What is the one tool that is missing in the Leatherman Skeletool?

I EDC a Skeletool, it works perfect for me.. i've taken apart large casino signs, small slot machine parts etc.. with it..

The only thing i don't like is that the bottle opener sucks.. lol

I keep a Leatherman Micra on my keychain, I've even customized a few of the formerly useless tools in it. :)

Since I always have at least Spyderco on me, I'd trade the blade for a file. However, I realize that for most people, the knife blade is better.

Actually, a Skeletool with a file would be handy to have on an airplane or in locales where locking blades are not allowed (San Antonio, TX, or the UK, for example).

Great news everybody! Leatherman is releasing a NEW Skeletool with LESS functionality! Rejoicing may commence!

In all seriousness I am glad-- Lose the carabiner and the bit driver and you have one slim competitive little knife-plier combo. Looking forwards to reviews of this one.

Would you happen to have a link?

Why would anyone buy the Skeletool knowing that it had the carabiner and seeing pictures of it with the carabiner and then hating the carabiner? I think the carabiner is THE selling point of the Skeletool. I really like the carabiner and I also like the Phillips/slot drivers.

the one thing missing from my Skeletool? the flat-head screwdriver bit :(

I lost it inside 1 of 1000 slot machines, guess i'll order the $20 bit Kit. :)

it would be nice if you could buy replacement blades as well...

I don't think the bits in the Leatherman bit kit will fit the Skeletool. As you know, the bits for the Skeletool are flat and I think the bits in the kit are round.

I like the biner. It allows me to just hang my Skeletool in my belt loop everyday. I don't have to mess around with threading my belt through pouches that get grimy over time. I saw the new Freestyle and while it is nice, I can't see myself going back to a Leatherman I have to carry in a pouch or pocket. Biners baby!

Leatherman has three different bit kits. The oldest uses normal hex based bits and comes with a tool adapter/bit driver that works with the older Leathermans such as the PST, Supertool, etc.. Some of the newer tools have flat bit drivers that take the flat, double sided bits. For these tools, there is a set of 21 double sided bits with no driver. Some of the newer tools don't have the flat driver built in so there is a bit kit that comes with some flat, double sided bits and a bit driver that locks onto the end of the philips head screwdriver on a Leatherman tool.

I think what the previous poster wants is the 21 double sided bit kit without a driver. Both of the newer kits go for around $20.

There are two tools missing:
FIrst are the scissors.
Second is the exchangeble blade holder of the surge. That way, you could use any rigsawblade you want and the leatherman Diamondfile on the skeletool.

I think it should be easily doable to mill of the Biner and screw on some bladeholder of the surge kind instead.
The scissers should be able to go in the same handle where the bit compartment is - just open the screw an send them in :)

I think i will order a skeletool and try those mods :)

Here a skeletool without biner:

I just wanted to update this thread with my newest mod:
Scissors on the skeletool:

p1020508y.jpg

As you can see i also ripped of the biner to make it shorter.
Its now 8,7cm long and weights 128g. Thats exaclty how long and heavy the newer freestyle is but with more tools.

Tweezers

I've had so many times where I was stung by a bee, or nailed by cactus (I have a cactus garden), and a SAK with tweezers is a lifesaver... especially for Opuntia type cactus thorns that are so tiny you rarely see them.

Leatherman in general is disapointing in this area. A simple pair of tweezers is a very important tool for treating minor wounds (glass sliver, wood splinter). Removing something penetrating the skin and then immediately applying anti-bacterial medication like polysporin reduces infections. I don't understand why every model, including the Skeletool, doesn't have one.
