I have a very nice TLE-5ex, with great color and brightness. I wanted to know if there is a way to tell if it is a Q5 or an XR-E

The XR-E is a model, the Q5 is a bin code used for the XR-E model

It's like the difference between a "Toyota Corolla", or a "red Corolla CE" or a "blue Corolla LE"

Thanks, that clarifies a bit. Is there a thread that lists all the LED's in a way that explains the brands, models, and bins. flashlightreviews.com was an awesome site, and it went down into a description brand/model, but not bins. Also, it is out of date now.

From what I can tell by reading many threads are that the newest are as follows:

Lumineds
*K2
*Rebel

SSC:
P4

Cree:
XR-E (w/ Q5 as best bin currently)

IS this right?

I've been reading about the Terralux Mini-Mag upgrade module. The only dropins I've used were the units from The LED Shoppe and I gave them all to family members and the last one I had was damaged in a fall.
I ordered the TerraLUX MiniStar2 EXTREME (TLE-5EX) that is described as an "Ultra efficient Luxeon K2 with TFFC 'flip chip' 3 Watt LED which is estimated to output around 100 lumens at the emitter".
This is a bit different from the Terralux web site the advertises 140 lumens output. More on that later.

The installation is quite easy as it's a direct replacement of the bulb. Pop out the bulb and push in the module.
The color is a very nice white. No green or blue was noticed. Overall it is a nice upgrade to the MM.
On the downside, the board is a bit too thick as the slightest turn of the flashlights head turns the light on at a semi close focus. I say semi as it could be a hair tighter. Screwing out the head might be possible but by the time it starts to be a close focus, the head unscrews from the body. The reflector has a few artifacts and the hotspot is not round. It could be better but that is only a white wall test. Overall, I rate this upgrade as good for what it costs ($25).

Now I'll try to round up a 140 lumen kit.
Batteryguy lists the 140 as a Seoul P4
theledlight has it listed as a 5watt
zbattery lists as a 5 watt K2 but when you click on it the loaded page has it rated at 80-100 lumen.

There was a thread in another forum mentioning that the Luxeon K2 with TFFC has been recalled as some of the units are failing within 24 hours of use. I wonder whether the latest Terralux dropins based on this new LED are affected. I was considering getting a dropin for a 3D mag, but now I wonder.
