Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

Thank you for doing those beamshots! I've got a mini AA in warm white on order. From the beamshots, I think i'd prefer the neutral white... but I'd like to see them in person. Now I just gotta wait for the mini AA ww to arrive...

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

I think the eye adjusts to the warm tint very well-- the camera may not see the same way we do.

Nope, the camera doesn't, as it is always fixed on a white calibration.

If I use a neutral white for a certain time, I'm not aware of the warm tint anymore. If someone throws in a cool white beam, I think "wow, is my beam really that warm?"

Most of us were used to the warm whites, the time we used our stock Maglites. When I changed the cells, it was like going from a warm white to a real white light again...

While I guess that neutral white will stay my favorite tint, I can't wait to test these warm whites, it'll be something different, I'm always after something new and something uncommon! lovecpf

csshih what color balance did you have it set at? daylight? I wonder what would it look like with incand white balance :D

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

isn't the best way to do a tint comparison by doing a custom White balance settings in the camera with a white paper lighten by the sun.. and then take all the picture with the same WB settings.. shouldn't this way give a most correct tint comparison..? just a thought..

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

whatever the white balance settings were, these are great beamshots allowing us to have a good idea of the difference in tints;
waiting for the neutral white now  :poke::twothumbs

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

I think the neutral tint mini Quarks use an XP-E emitter and not the XP-G.
The warm tint minis use the XP-G.
Please correct me if I"m wrong on this.

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

What battery type was used in the AA lights? NiMH? Thanks.

From what I read, the review units provided to Craig were XP-G Neutrals, which are not for sale at this time.

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

Craig, could you do that animation with the 2 sec. beamshots?

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

This pic convinced me to stick with neutral. Seems the colors are more true. R5 gives it green tint and the warm gives it an orange tint. Thanks for the review.

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

Any word if the mini warm tinted lights are still scheduled for shipping tomorrow?

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

I think for reading id like the warm but
for everything else Im probably sticking with
the xpg r2 4000k tint as being my personal
favorite.
Im going to do some trail work in the
rain tonight and will have my xpg R5 123mini
and dual xpg R2 3B Linger Special powered L2P
+ SST50 5700k powered C2
as well as my P4 headlamp and with
all of that Ill get a nice mix ;)
no way I NEED all of those lights with me
but its fun to set up different ones as area lights.
not good for keeping the trail "secret" tho

Id LOVE a 3B tint turbo quark or G5 !!!!!

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

csshih, thanks for the beamshots.

I feel that I NEED to mention that your WB settings is scaring people away and/or confusing people. :o
You really need to do a more of a "apples to apples" comparison, set you WB to 2700K with 0 tint. Compare it to the P60, please.
Not everyone understands how cameras see white balance/ tint MUCH differently than we do. :poke:

Thanks again, we DO appreciate the effort!

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

indeed! it does seem that the beamshots are scaring away people./

they were done at daylight white balance (5200K) , and , my next set of beamshots will be done at tungsten ( lowest kelvin rating available on my camera) @ 3200K.

Honestly, I can't wait for my Warm, but your pictures did give me some hesitation. That said, I know from personal experience that cameras don't really capture what a light looks like to our eyes, so I can't really say anything until I have it in my hands and can see the beam for myself. Still waiting for your new pictures, though. :)

Re: 4sevens Quark Mini Tint Options: A Quick Look.

here is a warm quark mini123 with a surefire p60 dropin.

SS-2010.05.10-15.29.20.jpg

with the white balance set to 3200K.

this is oddly close to what I see( it's slightly more yellow), when only using the warm whites/incans.

once I turn on the cool whites, my vision goes weird. :nana:
