194 vs 2825?

I'm fairly certain it's okay to talk about LED interior lights here :)

The map lights in my new car ('13 Chevy Sonic), which also serve as dome lights, are listed in the manual as 2825. There is a Sylvania Zevo in 2825.

The Sylvania list says the Zevo 2825 is also suitable to replace 168 and 194. What's the difference between all these ANSI numbers?

Similarly, the regular dome light is listed as 6411, but the Zevo LED is also sold under DE3423.

Why all this overlap?

2825 is not an ANSI number, it is Osram's number for a W5W bulb. W5W, in turn, is closely approximate to 168 -- they both produce about 50 lumens -- while W3W (Osram 2821) is closely approximate to 194 -- they both produce about 25 lumens. There are scads of different bulbs in this same form factor, producing different amounts and colors of light with different lifespans. The Sylvania Zevo 2825 should work just fine in your dome lights.

6411 is a 10-watt festoon bulb with pointy ends, 41mm long, producing 115 lumens. DE3423 is a 5-watt festoon bulb with pointy ends, 41mm long, producing 50 lumens. My favorite replacement for these, if you have the space in your light housing, is this one.

Quite interesting, really. Not yet sure if I have room for it. In case I do, is there a US supplier? Seems silly to pay postage from the UK on 1 bulb.

I have never found a US supplier; it's enough better than what's available here that I just grit my teeth and pay the shipping from the UK.

I wonder if their DE3175 replacement is as good. The two Sylvania Zevos I tried were not extremely convincing. The shipping/waiting gamble isn't extremely appealing at this time.

Sylvania (Osram) updated the much of their Zevo line recently, but they appear to be the same festoons as before. Only rated at 35 lm, per the Osram site, regardless of length.

Philips' X-tremeVision festoons (with the rectangular clear housing) are 45 lm; the Vision (round translucent housing) are 35 lm IIRC. Intestingly, the latter are also sold by Osram in some regions as a lower level option to the "Zevo" equivalents.

Philips' T10 wedge LED (12799xxxx) is good (better diffuser than the Osrams), and sold cheaply as part of the Vision line, but only the 6000k version is available here. The XTV packaged version is available in three different color temps (4000/6000/8000k) and can be ordered from overseas, or an importer for about double the cost.

There's a new version of the T10 LEDs (12791xxxx) that's not quite as bright. It appears to be part of an attempt to bring the Vision branding to the rest of the world. And though the part number suggests one color, the packaging claims another (127914000 = 4500k; 6000=5500k).

I've been using some "filament LED" festoons from Alibaba that have turned out surprisingly well. Unlike a lot of that stuff, the color temp is fairly accurate (not bluish), and they mimic a festoon bulb incredibly well in appearance. The different lengths all appear to use the same "filament," which is subjectively brighter than a C5W, if not quite as bright as a "C10W." It might not work as well in a single dome application, but it's not as noticeable in interiors with multiple lights. They were dirt cheap as well; only had to wait for delivery.

That Lunasea bulb looks very similar or identical to the UK-sourced one (which I'm sure is not actually made in the UK).

the bulb at Lunasea is $12.99 (presumably plus shipping).

Getting it from JMG in the UK will cost around UD$15, including shipping.

Life is full of weirdness, but it always irks me when it's cheaper to get a (presumably) Chinese bulb by buying from a UK supplier, rather than a US one.

Oh, the Lunasea bulb can be had on Amazon, as well - for $19:

Being that I have upgraded the Interior lights in my cars (and being the fact you have a '13 Daewoo, I can answer this personally. Being this is a Daewoo, Mine takes the same Dome light bulbs. I would recommend these for the Dome/Cargo lights as they are 6411 and the light output is not much noticible in difference these are the EXACT bulbs i have, they have a slightly blueish tint. they are 36mm, but, again being that You have a Daewoo, these WILL fit, and it will fit your trunk too if you have a Festoon style bulb in there.

for your T10 based dome light I would recommend These, they should be more than good enough for map lights. I paid $1.98 for 4 of them, but they are GREAT for your purpose. I used Purple T10s in the Impala so i cant comment exactly on how these bulbs will work as interior bulbs.
