I'm so pleased with the tint of this one I'm not considering modding personally. Stock for me. How do you all trust the mini carbiner clasp that he photon comes with? Do you swap yours with another that you prefer and trust more. I've seen some people using the pick or nano McGizmo clips. I have a little paracord lanyard and tiny s-biner on mine for now. Lanyard for better handling and the clip for easy key carry or clipping elsewhere.

A quality split ring to go on the small split ring directly attached to the Photon is what I use. One large enough to put on my ring finger so that extended use can be achieved with the little light not falling away into the snow or muddy water. These are attached to zipper pulls on backpacks or a small Nite-Ize locking S-biner on the key chain. Used the lobster claw for years though.

If I find some I'll let you know. Even getting 5 people would work for me. I'd pay the $25

The issue being that it's now a 1000 count minimum order for something like 130$ plus shipping.
I personally would be interested in 100 of the 3000k in 45 degree or 60 degree optic for 20$ +/- if there were around ten buyers.
Or 25+$, certainly, for 200 if there were only 5.

Not to advertise or derail, as I'm not going to net a profit at the end of the day, but I opened a group buy for the 3200k 45° high cri Yujis. Bit the bullet and ordered 1000 last night, and got DHL shipping notice this morning. See "Group Buy and Passaround" subforum if you're interested. :)

When removing the original led, are pushing on the exposed end and pressing it INTO the body, or do you push the underside of the led from inside the body and press it OUT?

The LED has to come out from the front of the plastic case. It cannot move back into the housing, so don't push on it in that direction. If it is a Covert model, it will emerge with the shroud still around it.

The easiest order is:
1) pop off the back cover, as though to change the cell
2) pop out the cell
3) lift up on the circuit board on the edge away from the LED. Once it is above the lip of the plastic housing, slide it backwards and away from the LED. The two legs of the LED will slide out of the sleeves that are soldered onto the circuit board.
4) Once the circuit board is out, use something small and blunt (like maybe a 1/8" or 3mm pin or dowel) to push from the **inside** of the plastic housing, against the base of the LED, while taking care not to deform the legs of the LED
5) The LED with its shroud (if Covert) or clear centering-ring (if regular) will come out the front of the plastic housing.
6) Look at the dog-leg bend in the legs of the LED you just removed. Bend and trim the new LED to that shape and length.
7) Reassemble!

And that's it. Nothing glued, nothing soldered. Easy-peasy.

One trick: The dog-leg bend is non-symmetrical, since one leg is positive and one is negative. Use the circuit-board (with battery installed) while it is out of the housing to check which leg is which, and make sure that you are bending the legs in the right direction.

Yes and does one install the LED first then work the circuit board into the host, taking care that the emitter legs go into the sockets?

EDIT: Or is it a situation where both LED and circuit board get gently pushed in at sort of the same time?

I'm picturing led first and then gently get the legs into the sockets, toss in batteries, throw a party. I'd also like to know what the output difference is on a white Led between using 2016 vs 2032.

Kitrobaskin, that's a good description of how I have always done it, yeah.

But it might be possible the other way you describe, i.e. have both moving together. I haven't tried it, so I can't say it won't work.

gurdygurds, there is a pretty big lumen difference between the 3v set-up and the 6v set up. It would be nice to put some numbers on it, but I'd guess that it's a factor of 2 in lumen terms, since it is very visible to the eye.

I often run my white Photons on the lower voltage set-up, because there is *also* a big difference in runtime. The 2032 has more than twice the capacity of the 2016 (240mah vs. 100mah from Eveready's spec sheets). Yeah, it's dimmer, but for a back-up or night-time light that's usually okay.

I carry a Photon because it can go so low, so the even lower lowest level with a 2032 is a plus for me.

Thanks for linking that thread Nascar. Super informative. Someone brought up a good point that if you're using a freedom, maybe just run it stock and use the dimming feature if you're looking save battery life. Fun to have options to play around with though. My E01s are definitely starting to get jealous.

Hi folks! I just got back home from an unexpectedly long trip to Florida for Mrs. Scout's and my youngest daughter having her first child. Ba y was fine, she was in the hospital for a week. If you sent me a Photon, It'll be headed back to you by Tuesday. Thanks for your patience!

Update- If you sent me a Photon for a Yuji emitter, it's on the way back to you. They just went in the mail at the P.O. I had one Photon 3 sent to me- momentary at the front, click on at the rear. Your emitter needed to be unsoldered and re-soldered. It's been years since I soldered, so if you have a problem with it, let me know and I'll happily do it again. Enjoy, folks! :)
