Great choice of emitter and driver.

I ordered some 5amp drivers from Convoy. 12 mode groups. They should be excellent drivers for single emitter setups.

Nichia 519a can handle more current than the 219b, but I've known of 3 that have burned up using FET drivers in seconds. So, for me, a conservative 3 amp driver is ideal, with a 5 amp driver being the max.

I can add 3*7135 chips to a QLiTE and get it to 4 amps, which is probably perfect for a single 519a

I remove 7135 chips for the lights I build for my kids. I give them 1 amp QLiTE drivers.

I wouldn't mind giving that P60 a workout in LF z44 head. H17fx is the best way to go..
How many more are you planning to make?
PM me if we're breaking rules

I've got quite a few P60 reflectors just sitting here to be put together.
I only have a couple H17fx drivers since they are $17 a peice from Mtn.

That H17fx is nice but turbo with an 18650 battery will melt these LEDs in a reflector setup.

I like the 3amp Qlite 4 mode driver....but you can customize the Qlite to a 100 different mode options

The QLite is what I put in the P60 reflectors I build for myself.

While we are waiting for JTknives to get his order:

KD, you are saying 100 different Qlite mode options? Where can one practically find these? That link you provided describes different firmware order options, but not a whole lot giving details. Richard helped me out when I ordered from mtnelectronics before, and it was a simple 2 mode dedome XPG (and he gave me really good information via email). You kind of need to be skilled and experienced to order some things on his website. Little guidance is provided to gain such knowledge.

KD, As soon as I have a better idea, I will PM you for a smooth, maybe 4A, 519a 5000K dedome with super low mode most easily accessed for brief middle-of-the-night necessities, then an easy/quick option to go to max from off or on, and a ~20% and ~50% setting for most usage during dog walks. Thanks!

Of course we're breaking the rules, but knowledge is being gained, right? Thread originator voiced concerns, got feedback, and hopefully resolution.

KD, can you show an image of the reflector straight on down into the business end? Great choice of emitter and driver.
I don't mind. I love it when threads get side tracked. A lot of times it goes in a direction that me or another person would not have thought to ask about. It's Information and all information is good

Maybe 100 was a bit exaggeration. So the $4 QLite driver isn't going to have the customization options as the $17 H17Fx.
But there's still a lot of options...but no double click to max.

This page has all the mode options: you can go with the default QLite firmware, guppydrv, star off-time firmware, NLITE firmware.

Randy, of PFlexPro fame, made an H17F dropin for me years ago. It took a long time to program but served well. Thinking that a composite P60 host for my (then) 9 year old son would handle boy-drops better, I programmed the highest mode conservatively for plastic melting avoidance. Yeah, a ~$60 dropin for an $8 host that inexplicably disappeared. Ouch. He has lost a couple other flashlights but never did lose the brown/gold SolarForce host. He is now sporting a silver 519a 4500K Convoy S2+. Now if we can just get him to keep the lumens down to only what's needed, consistently. How about getting the wife to stop rapidly bobbing her beam up in the air and down to her feet while walking? Better to stay back or far forward then ask her to stop it for the umpteenth time.

Randy also made a ramping Crescendo driven P60 for me; kind of experimental for him at the time. Turns out it really only functioned properly with a reverse clicky and I found it to be twitchy, fussy and altogether non-ideal for field use. I still use it as a ceiling bounce occasionally, in a supercool Oveready Defense Light host.

KernelD, what about one of those H17Fx with a smooth 5000K dedomed 519a with No last mode memory. Perhaps it can start at step 1, then 17 then 20? Double click for PID controlled max. Anything I'm missing?

It's doable. I would set the double tap to step 22 if that's possible. Max current from a larger battery will fry the 519a faster than you can turn it off

I'm a bit confused on the the Nichia 519A. I have this led running under h17f made by Tana on an e-series KX head, although rated only at up to 3amp max. I would run this at turbo at times. I have been wanting a similar set-up P60 or even in a Malkoff MDX/VME format. Is this feasible?

I do have a couple of other Cree LEDs running under h17f driven at 3amps max.

Well I got my stuff. But while rebuilding my x300 with a XHP50.2 I slipped with a tiny screwdriver and popped the dome right off, facepalm.

Sounds like a dedomed 50.2 was meant to be.
Does the led still work?

It does but it looks kinda purple.
Some of the phosphor probably came off with the dome.

I'm enjoying the discussion ITT. It inspired me to make a P60 drop-in with a dedomed 5000K 519a and H17Fx, and the same driver/emitter combo in a Lumens Factory e-series head. These are making 500-600 lumens on Level 22 with extremely nice beams.

I also tried dedomed 4500K and 5700K but greatly prefer the tint of the dd 5000K. It's very similar to a 4000K 219b. 4500K dd is sort of like SW35, but dd 5700K is nothing like SW45K. I still haven't seen a 519a variation (domed or dedomed) that rivals the SW45K.

Awesome. What are the details to the Lumens Factory e-series head? Do they come with the driver pill? This sounds like what @akula88 wants.
I didn't realize Lumens Factory has a modding-friendly e-series head. I need to order one.

So this is just my experience with the 5000k 519a. With the FET "Turbo" mode of H17Fx and let's say a 20amp 18650 battery...you're probably sending 10+ amps to the LED. That specific LED just can't handle it. Now I have several 5000k 519a in AA and AAA setups and they are wonderful. I have one in a P60 setup with a 3amp QLite driver with zero issues. Others may have different results and their 5000k 519a can take 20 amps all day every day. The ones I put together couldn't handle high current.

It's unfortunately a sort of expensive option since you need to buy the complete head with LED and driver from LF. I wasn't crazy about the Nichia 319 and 3-mode driver with memory that came stock, so I did the mod.

But yes, once you get the stock driver and MCPCB off, the mod is pretty straightforward. The pill accepts a 17mm driver and 12mm MCPCB. Then just screw the reflector back on with an isolation washer and pop it back in the head.

Very nice reflectors on the LF modules...

Duster -- just to be clear with my understanding :) -- these is the drop-in that comes with the KL1/KL4-styled heads?

Hello JTknives,
How about seeing if you can change the title of this thread to reflect that mtnelectronics is most definitely not a scam? Seems like we used to be able to do that before on the previous forum format, though that may be a mistake.
