Why warm tint is more preferred in flashlight, scientific explanation

I bought a SF G2X Pro with its neutral tint, and I must say that I would prefer a cooler tint. I find the very warm tint of halogen and incandescent to be very undesirable, especially at low intensities. I really like the high color rendition with as cool a tint as possible. Warm tints appear...

What was your first 'real' LED Flashlight? Have you still got it?!

When delivering papers door-to-door as a kid, I found a Dorcy 41-4281 45 lumen 3xAAA LED flashlight in someone's lawn that decided to come home with me. I don't remember what year it was, 2007 or thereabouts. It was the first flashlight I ever saw with a tailcap clicky switch, so it took me a...

MAG 2D cell - Has MAG changed the emitter ?

Re: MAG 2D cell - Has MAG changed the emitter Maglite's website lists the 2D LED (with the 3W LED) as still outputting 134 lumens. Maybe they are using a differently tinted emitter or something like that. If you want to get another Mag LED, you should go with the PRO (twice as bright for $5...

What lights are in your bug out bag?

My EDC Swiss Army knife has a saw similar to the Stihl handsaw mentioned earlier. It cuts through wood very well for its size. I use an Aquamira filter straw in my BOB. It is a backup to the chlorine dioxide treatment drops, though.

SF R1 Lawman strobe experience - traffic regulation

On an open road, strobe functions are great for warning approaching drivers of a hazard. However, as a pedestrian, I would be less likely to use a high powered strobe on a straying driver. The likelihood of causing an accident is just too high.

    there are some Jokes

I work at a golf course frequented by senior citizens. Inside one of the porta-potties, on the door, this was written in a Sharpie. Caution: Room has 19% grade. Seniors won't be able to get off seat. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to watch people's reactions.

    incandescent vs luminescence

Incandescent lighting works using the principle of blackbody radiation. Every object emits EM radiation, the wavelength of which is determined by the temperature of the object. As the temperature rises from electrical resistance, the energy of the photons increases, shortening the wavelength...

    What watch you're wearing?

I have Gshock solar, just like the one on top in Tmack's picture. It is not a stylish watch but is extremely durable, after 3 years of wearing it I haven't got a single scratch on the screen. It has been splashed around in shallow water for hours, but never got wet inside. The lithium-ion...

    most comfortable work boots?

I have a pair of Timberland Pro steel toe boots and love them; they have been through a lot of abuse in the past year and are still holding up strong. They are uncomfortable at first but eventually break in. I use them for my groundskeeping job.

    Are your Flashlights EMP-protected?

Stores flashlights in grounded foil covered cans; still plugs computer directly into mains electricity. If anything, its the electrical grid that will fry your electronics. Flashlight electronics are far more resilient than a CPU or RAM due to their simplicity. Static electricity can simulate...

Are CR2 flashlights a dying breed?

CR2, N, AAAA, and other lights with nonstandard battery sizing will never compete with AA, AAA, or even CR123A for the vast majority of customers. With AAA lights putting out 200+ lumens with 10440, having long shelf life with L92, and being cheap to run with Eneloop, CR2 have lost their niche...

Do you use your lights hard or do you pamper them?

I just scratched up all my good flashlights with a Swiss Army knife chisel to determine the relative anodizing hardness. Now my SureFire has my initials carved in the bezel. The anodizing was disappointingly soft on the G2X head.
