60/55HRC
300 Slice Fail

Less than $10 dollaroo's to my door .
Sheath is cheap nasty Vinyl .. So I adapted another sheath for the knife ( Cos I could )
After the test I ground the spine crispy ( bushcrafty ) .
The knife slices wood really nice .
Yes it's a copy knife , butt ! - Unbranded .....
At 300 slices = 3.3 cents a slice .. Just under that ...

For a cheap knife :
It has reasonable edge retention
Sharpens nicely
Is comfortable to use ( yes it's a copy )
The sheath is horrid ( ill pay that due )

So looks like cheap chinese knives are moving to vinyl sheaths or plastic rather than kydex .
So the days of picking up a decent sheath look to be over ! ( Crappy knife but decent sheath )
Oh dear ! At least no buyers remorse with this one ( 9 dollars ? )

300 slices probably puts it at 5cr level. I don’t think too many of the cheap knives have kydex plastic but just plastic, which is still better than vinyl. I’ve never seen anyone do some sort of scratch test to see if a sheath is really kydex but I have seen someone do a drop test to see how the sheath holds up. YouTube channel GreenBeetle does some good work with his testing and does a drop test.
 
It's hard to say in regards to cr this N that .. I have 5cr that performs well and other cr that's rubbish . The early days of Cr was harsh Cos all the Cr was rubbish . But most manufacturers seem to have a handle on it these days . For $9.60 , can't expect too much . ( That's cheap - literally throw away cheap ) But yeah , all that bad early CrMov has left a bad taste for it . I don't understand why people covet 12c27n (?) . Every knife I own in 12c27n is trash for the price paid ! I don't own any good 12c27n ! In fact , these days , Id rather buy 440c than 12c27n . ( Id like to avoid both if I can ) But then , some manufacturers do a real good job with 440c ( so there is that ) .
 
Heat treat is often more important than the type of steel when comparing performance.

To some extent = Yes ...
Cheap steel heat treated correctly = Yes
Good steel heat treated correctly = Better
Premium steel heat treated correctly = Best

Problem is = How do you know ? If you shell out large and get an average knife ? ( Oooops ) If you shell out cheap and get a good knife (?) and shell out cheap and get a cheap knife ( you got what you paid for ? ) Most people don't test , so they don't know !
