I have the opportunity to buy a 1watt Q3X batwing emitter. I would like to drive it with 3 AA NiMh. Since it is an "X" will I need resistance? Will it be bright? How many ma. do think it will draw?

i dont think they have X voltage bins for 1 watt emitters, i believe when people say X, that means unknown or can vary...

I agree with Ray and anyway, the deeper into the alphabet you go, the HIGHER the Vf is.

Resistance is more appropriate the earlier you are in the alphabet for that last digit...

A quick check of the Lumileds Luxeon Bin PDF shows that there is no X for forward voltage. W is the highest that they show.

Ah, upon further review I see that G through L is the range for forward voltage for 1W white luxeons.

To me, this signifies that UfoKillerz and Mr. Bulk are correct.

I wonder what would be Lumileds' naming plans when the 10+W LSs roll out...

They'll be runnin' out of letters...
