How do I specify what bin I would like when I order? I know not every bin possible is available, just depends on what they have in stock.

I hear Future can occasionally help you out with 1 or 2 bins (flux, tint, Vf - pick 1 or 2), but it's pot luck otherwise.

Heck one might as well order a bunch, for experiementing. If they get some jems, woo hoo. If not, who cares if you blow one up testing out your new circuit/heatsink, its only 3.50 instead of $9+ !!

And yes, now multi led applications are cheap!!! 3 emitters <= the price of one at the old prices...

So you could make that house hold lighting project you've been wanting. or under car lighting (forget neon!)

How about DIY luxeon car headlights!? :)

So does this mean that the prices will drop in CPF too?

It already has, Photonfanatic is offering TXOH and TWOH for $10 each. You couldn't get good Lux 1's for this price a few months ago.

(newbie question) So if the Lux I and the Lux III are so close in price, why would anyone want to get the Lux I ?

I am looking to change the halogen bulb in my bike light. I always thought it was a good quality light, until I picked up a luxeon flashlight. Was looking for a Lux I to save $$$ (might burn out a couple while experimenting). But for $0.50 more, the Lux III sounds a lot better.

High flux luxI's (S bin and such) are more efficient than all but the highest binned LuxIII's

Ok, I get it. That must be why it seems a lot of products use the Lux I, and then push 2 or 3 watts through them.

Look forward to see more & More multi-luxeon flashlights.
I was around when the first transistor radios came out. I paid $90.00 for one at a time when union wages were about $2.00 an hour for grocery clerks, less if you were a woman.

Within a few years the radios were about $10.00 and transistors were so cheap that some radios had extra transistors, linked to nothing so they could advertize 10 transistor ranther than the five or six the radio actually used.

The short version of this is, "you ain't seen nothing yet".

Increased production in the semi conductor market has always lead to lower prices both becaue of quantity and because better ways of producing are found.
Look for binning to disappear (as it did with CPUs) and only new items to have higher prices.

Then there are the quantum dots...

I Dont know if someone mentioned this yet but this price drop in Luxeon LED's seems closely related to Maglight's press release of a LED based maglight range coming soon. I am therefore guessing that a Luxeon LED based maglight closely priced to the common ( incand. ) maglight will be available soon dealing a heavy punch to the other Luxeon LED flashlight manufacturers.
