A local machinist has contacted me and showed me the following.

Is there interest in these? You can run the stock bulb as is or upgrade it with a sandwich or other mods.

The price is tentatively $55.00 and there are 18 currently that he is willing to sell in the first batch and possibly the only batch. These take a lot of machining time and effort.

I have played with one and the work in top notch and personally a lot better than what I can do.

If you are interested I'm taking a signup list on this thread.

What is the advantage of paying $55.00 to go to a more expensive battery on on a MiniMag? Granted it is a good job, but the strength of these light is their quality and cheap running cost....
 
The price is a bit steep. But I guess the point is that you can have the same length as a mini-minimag, but longer run-time...

Wayne, am I right that you can't use a regular minimag tail cap or a kroll switch on that baby?

Now if that thing is in HAIII too, then I'd be really interested.

forfr some reason I can't see the picture -- I can only see about half the pictures that are posted -- makes me wonder what the difference between them is?
 
$55 is pretty close to the cost of a CNC-123 body. In fact, HA CNC-123 bodies are currently available for about $65 I think? Given the choice I'd go with the CNC-123 just because of the non-twisty head and the guarded kroll clickie. There might be more interest if the price were dropped by $10 or $15.

This is very interesting as a novelty light and would be an interesting addition to a collection... Heck, I bet these could be cut and bored a little longer to accept 1.5x123 (Pila 150S) for use with a 1A NexGen BB or MM+ sandwich.

Anything is possible. An estimate would be another $15.00-$20.00 to strip off the existing Anodizing and another $20-$25.00 to HAIII anodize them. Depending on the qty the price might go up or down.

Yes, I'm concerned that the required labor to make these will drive the cost up. If there isn't sufficient interest I might have to pass on these. Maybe, I'll pick up a few and see how things go.
 
It's a spacer for the front end. You cannot bore all the way to the head threads as it necks down to below the 123 diameter. Stopping short requires an additional spacer.

If it was possible to bore all the way to the front the light would be shorter by the spacer shown.

Very interesting. How thin does the wall end up after boring it out? I'm curious if it is any weaker.

It's not soo thin that it can be folded or squished. I'm sure it is easier to deform being thinner, but, there was enough meat left to rethread the tube to accomodate the modified tailcap. It too had to be enlarged and threaded to fit the new diameter.
 
I had one light for a day. I sent it back to have some work done on it. I expect it back on Tues. When I get the light and take additional pictures or make measurements on the light if anyone is interested.

Also, since these are done in small batches when he has spare "free" time it's possible that we could ask him to make custom version like the CR2 style, or the 150S size.

The sample I got was sent back to make sure the units will be Sandwich compatible. This will be verified and adjusted to ensure full Sandwich compatibility.

Sorry, I have never made a MMM and don't have the dimensions offhand. I would guess the two are going to be about the same length since 1X123 + spacer ~= 1AA.
 
Hmmm, has potentials.... I haven't done any measurements but Wayne, do you think that it could be possible to make it in such a way that enables the use of an AA battery if the spacer is taken out?

I can enquire, but, if that was possible it would most likely be a fluke that the spacer + 123 = AA. I'll measure the one I get when it comes on Tues. You will probably need a small sleeve around part of the AA to keep it from rattling around.
 
whoo I am interested. I like the stock bodies of the mags just the light bulbs make me steam. If these do drop a bit in price like StoneDog said, I think I can buy. If my parents would allow me to as a christmas present.
