If a bulb maker says their HID product can handle between 12v - 30v and sell it with a nominal 12v (11.1) battery supply, what would the advantage be to say using different batteries (range 11.1v, 14.8v, 18.5v, 22.7v, 25.9v or 29.6v) of an equal Ah to feed that light.. would the ballast just adjust the power in and keep it stable, thus making each battery run for longer or would the light burn brighter.. cheers..
 
Using Ah to compare batteries of different voltage is misleading, use this formula

Watt hours = voltage*Amp hours

a 30v battery with say 2Ah rating will be made up of more cells, so will be larger, heavier and contain more energy than a 15v 2Ah battery. A 15v 4Ah battery would be similar in size, weight and energy (using same number of cells, assuming same battery type is used, but in a different configuration).

and your question about benefits of using higher voltage - i have no idea :oops:
