Purchased in B/S/T forum from Waion.

These lights appear to be all metal on the outside with the only plastic in the form of a soft, but grippy polymer clickie in the tail.
They appear and feel to be built like little metal tanks.

$33.98 including tt&l and airfare from Hong Kong for 2 M21s.
Below are the 2 lights and the packaging they came in.
From paypal order to my mailbox only took a week. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif
Notice the extra item to the right?
It came as a surprise bonus from Waion in the package. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/santa.gif
I needed one of those keychain white led lights.

The business end of it with all 21 leds accounted for. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The battery holder showing the extra play in the spring.
It didn't seem to interfere with the lights performance.
It just means there is room for the biggest AAA batteries. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
09030018.jpg

What did interfere with the light's performance was some leftover
anodizing on the bottom of the battery tube, causing a dim, or flickering performance. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I scuffed that up a bit on concrete to make "contact points" for the tailcap clickie. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Now the lights work perfectly.

Beamshots!!

M21 versus greenish Everled run with 3 half D cell nimhs.

m21 left with 6d stock mag. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eeew.gif

M21 left with overpowering Trilight3. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
09030012.jpg

M21 left with 31 led 3dmagg Goldengadgets adaptor.
The m21 was 450 millamps and the 31 led unit was 610ma.
What's wrong with that picture? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

M21 left with Lightwave 4000 3d cell light with 10 leds.

Pros:
Bright for a 21 banger.
The leds are not usually overdriven (updated 9-9-04) with disposable, or rechargeable alkalines. 350 milliamps.
Water/rain resistant.
Fair quality.
Great bang for the buck!
Uses "normal" batteries.
Over 1 hour (updated 9-9-04) of runtime on 700mah nimhs without overheating, before first visual sign of dimming.
Feels good in hand in my case. medium to large hands fit this light well.
(update 9-10-04)
Fits like a custom shaped roll of quarters for when it's time for self defense,
and pop somebody one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif

Cons:
Not great quality, but still good.
Not waterproof, I saw bubbles in the sink with this light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/str.gif
The tailcaps were squeeky until I greased them.
Flickering and inconsistent performance until I scraped off some of the leftover anodizing
where the cap meets the barrel.
Definitely not type 3 anodizing;
A little has already rubbed off.
Not regulated, appears to be direct drive.
May feel too big in smaller hands than mine.
(update 9-9-04)
Can easily get overdriven with higher voltage/high current battlebot grade rechargeable nimh, or nicads. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

3 stars when they arrived.
4 star rated in current fixed up condition.
IMO, go for them, great value, security guard approved. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's some material that didn't quite make the original review.

Another comparison of m21 vers 3d mag 31 led kit with the assistance of a stock 2d magg overhead.
Remember; the m21 is at 450 milliamps and the 31 led kit is at 610 milliamps in this shot. Hmmmm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Re: M21 21 led pocketlight review with a pile of pics.

One more con;

No belt carry pouches were included. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

The lights are 1.25" at the tailcap, 4.75" long, 1.5" head.

I'll be looking for those at a military surplus store soon, unless anyone has some they want to give, or sell to me.

One more thing, make sure that you use "contact" grease as the tailcap lube. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
The grease I used was not. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad71.gif
No big deal since I wiped it off and now the lights work without dimming, or flickering. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: M21 21 led pocketlight review with a pile of pics.

Nice review and pics /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Looks like a cool light, especially to people who are used to mags and stuff .. huh 21 little lights? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: M21 21 led pocketlight review with a pile of pics.

Fixed it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thanks.gif

Re: M21 21 led pocketlight review with a pile of pics.

Nice review, thanks. It doesn't look like these M21 lights can stand up on end, is that correct? Thanks

Re: M21 21 led pocketlight review with a pile of pics.

Correct, unless you want to glue on a felt, plastic, rubber or metal oring to the bottom.
The surface around the clickie is flat, and the clickie cover only sticks out an eighth of an inch.
Oh-yeah, batteries not included.

Greased M21 21 led pocketlight.

Lightly greased all contacts with automotive "Bulb grease".

Well rested and partially discharged Supreme Power AAA nimhs are pushing consistently, exactly 670 milliamps in each light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Re: Greased M21 21 led pocketlight.

Very nice review. Really enjoyed the beamshots /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/clap.gif.

Re: $16.99 21 led pocketlight. with battery tests

Just did some more battery tests with the contacts cleaned and automotive "bulb" greased.

Electrical current measurements:

Fullymax brand Nicad 300mah AAA: 710ma (rested for an hour after charge)
960ma hot of the charger. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/str.gif

Supreme Power 750mah nimh AAA: 750ma (rested for an hour after charging)
1050ma hot off the charger. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin07.gif

Nexcell 700mah AAA nimh: 680ma (after resting for an hour after charging)
910ma hot off the charger.

Rayovac Renewal rechargeable AAA alkalines: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hahaha.gif 330ma (rested for an hour after charging)
410ma hot off the charger.

Conclusion:
Clearly, direct driving does have it's risks.
Always let your rechargeables rest and cool 1st before using them in any light.

Is it just me, or do these appear to be excellent "poor mans" lux3 equivalents?
They sure put out like them now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
2 of them running together are not really all that far behind the output of my Trilight 3x3watt light at 3 amps. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

They look cyan/greenish when underdriven below 400ma.
Angry bluish when pushed past 750ma.
Perfectly cool white at 400-750ma.

I'll post a couple updated beamshots on these improved lights (yawn) soon enough.

Re: $16.99 21 led pocketlight. with battery tests

Here's the beamshot I promised.

The m21's are each scarfing down 750 milliamps each (1500 total) from well rested Supreme Power 750mah AAA nimhs.
Lights both cost 33.98 total + batteries.

The bigger Trilight3 is getting 2.9 amps shoved through it from 4 Nexcell 8500mah D cell nimhs.
Total cost; $160 + batteries.
If you look closely, you can see the greenish Everled spotlighting the smaller lights.
