Flashlight Enthusiast
Purchased in B/S/T forum from Waion.
These lights appear to be all metal on the outside with the only plastic in the form of a soft, but grippy polymer clickie in the tail.
They appear and feel to be built like little metal tanks.
$33.98 including tt&l and airfare from Hong Kong for 2 M21s.
Below are the 2 lights and the packaging they came in.
From paypal order to my mailbox only took a week. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif
Notice the extra item to the right?
It came as a surprise bonus from Waion in the package. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/santa.gif
I needed one of those keychain white led lights.
Handheld closup showing the grippy surface.
The business end of it with all 21 leds accounted for. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
The battery holder showing the extra play in the spring.
It didn't seem to interfere with the lights performance.
It just means there is room for the biggest AAA batteries. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
What did interfere with the light's performance was some leftover
anodizing on the bottom of the battery tube, causing a dim, or flickering performance. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
I scuffed that up a bit on concrete to make "contact points" for the tailcap clickie. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Now the lights work perfectly.
Size comparison with 4d Trilight3, a floppy diskette and an M21.
Beamshots!!
M21 versus greenish Everled run with 3 half D cell nimhs.
21st century meets 19th century. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif
m21 left with 6d stock mag. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eeew.gif
M21 left with overpowering Trilight3. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
M21 left with 31 led 3dmagg Goldengadgets adaptor.
The m21 was 450 millamps and the 31 led unit was 610ma.
What's wrong with that picture? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif
M21 left with Lightwave 4000 3d cell light with 10 leds.
Pros:
Bright for a 21 banger.
The leds are not usually overdriven (updated 9-9-04) with disposable, or rechargeable alkalines. 350 milliamps.
Water/rain resistant.
Fair quality.
Great bang for the buck!
Uses "normal" batteries.
Over 1 hour (updated 9-9-04) of runtime on 700mah nimhs without overheating, before first visual sign of dimming.
Feels good in hand in my case. medium to large hands fit this light well.
(update 9-10-04)
Fits like a custom shaped roll of quarters for when it's time for self defense,
and pop somebody one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/twakfl.gif
Cons:
Not great quality, but still good.
Not waterproof, I saw bubbles in the sink with this light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/str.gif
The tailcaps were squeeky until I greased them.
Flickering and inconsistent performance until I scraped off some of the leftover anodizing
where the cap meets the barrel.
Definitely not type 3 anodizing;
A little has already rubbed off.
Not regulated, appears to be direct drive.
May feel too big in smaller hands than mine.
(update 9-9-04)
Can easily get overdriven with higher voltage/high current battlebot grade rechargeable nimh, or nicads. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jpshakehead.gif
3 stars when they arrived.
4 star rated in current fixed up condition.
IMO, go for them, great value, security guard approved. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
