16340 vs RCR123

I am getting ready next month to buy a Nitecore Extreme. I would like to know the pros and cons of running either of the two batteries mentioned in my title.


I get the idea that the 16340 battery runs at higher voltage, but what other differences should I expect?

If I go with RCR123's I would just order them from 4sevens with my light. What brand and where should I go to buy 16340 batteries? The only protected 16340's I found were Ultrafire and Trustfire. Are these brands okay for me to play around with?

Well, I feel like a dolt. After more searching it appears that they are basically the same damn thing. I would have bought AW RCR123 anyway.

Not necessarily - there are 3.7V 16340 cells and 3.7V RCR123 cells that are the same thing as each other. There are also 3.0V RCR123 cells that are the same thing, but with a voltage reducing circuit built it to cut the voltage down to 3V, these are designed for devices that will fry with more volts - they require a special charger. AW also has some 3.2V LiFePO4 cells which can work in some devices that would be fried by 3.7V cells.

Sorry for throwing a lot of confusing info in there.

The simple version is this: The NiteCore Extreme can run OK from a 3.7V 16340 so that is the best way to go - the AW protected 16340 is the best and safest battery to use.
