18650 Batterys

Im fairly new to the 18650 cells and was wanting some advise. For the last several months I've been using Ultrafire 4000mAh 18650 batterys and they do alright. Every artical I've read about the Ultrafire battery is negative. Everyone is saying that their is no 4000mAh cells. Also have been reading articles about the Panasonic "Orbtronic" 18650 batterys on how good they are so I decided to try them out. At 4 times the price of the Ultrafire cells I was leary of spending that kind of money on four 18650 batterys! Well when they arrived I put them on my Xtar WP2 charger with the switch on 1 amp charge and waited and waited and waited! I was beginning to get worried after a couple of hours because I was use to the Ultrafire batterys giving me the GREEN light in about an hour. Well after 3 1/2 hours the Xtar charger went GREEN. I installed all 4 Panasonic "Orbtronic" 18650s in my Nitecore TM11 and lit the world up! That night I went hunting water-moccasins "cotton-mouth" around 8:00pm and was using TURBO mode steady. Around 12:45am when we were getting back to the boat dock my tiny monster was still going strong! I couldn't believe how much longer the Panasonic batterys lasted than my old Ultrafire cells, and I was hesitating on spending so much money on them but im a true believer in the Panasonic 18650s now!!! My question is are the Industrial Panasonic 18650 batterys any better that the regular Panasonic cells? Also I noticed the button on top of the battery is slightly shorter that the regular Panasonic cells. Will they work in my Nitecore TM11?

I bought some cheap "protected" ultrafire 18650s, they seemed to work fine on the 1st charge, i discharged one pretty low but the light still worked - it was just dimmer, tried to recharge it and let it charge for like 10 hours and it still ddint say it was fully charged... not sure what happened. Using an intellicharger v2.

Ill try chargeing again tonight.

If you have a light that uses 18650s I highly recommend the Orbtronic 3100mAh 18650 battery. They are fantastic batterys that last a long time. The more you use them the stronger they get. The Orbtronics dealer told me that their good now but wait untill you charge them 3 or 4 times and you'll see a difference in how long they will last. Conditioning the cells is what he called it! He wasn't kidding, I didn't know a 18650 could last so long. They are definitaly worth the price.

Those are pure lies and misinformation. Li-Ion's don't need nor do they benefit from conditioning, cycling only adds wear to them.

Can you verify the longetivity of the Orbtronics, or have you not owned them long enough? Thank you.

They exist for around a year, considering that Li-Ions should have lifetime of 3-5 years, nobody could have verified them yet.

Can you measure the voltage of the cell? I'm sure you killed the cell. Most lights dimm when the cell reaches nearly 2.5V, if you used the light much longer the cell won't charge anymore. If the cell is now below 2V it is absolutely dangerous to try to charge the cell!!!

I bought some Eneloops yesterday and the muppet in the shop told me they will be flat so charge them first,are they not ready to use I asked?.No such thing he said.Oh how I laughed.
