<1mW leadlight V\'s <5mW leadlight..........Theory

I have a theory, i've mentioned it on another post, but have decided to dedicate an Actual thread.

We all know that the pot is there so that manufacturers can adjust the output. So, in theory, the 1mw and the 5mw are really the same laser, with the same MCA's and the same drivers.

Is anyone able to confirm that the 1mW and the 5mW have the same "guts" eg resistors etc etc. If this is the case then it shouldn't matter if you buy a 1mW leadlight or a 5mW leadlight. *UNLESS* they have diffrent, poorer quality MCA's or Less powerful infra red diode.

The reason i have brought this topic up has to do with new model Leadlights with the LED and other saftey features. As stocks of all the Old style 5mW leadlights dry up, The 1mW version would have to be a viable alternative to mod, as i believe there must be plenty of them out there on the open market.

So, has anyone compared the 2 types?

All comments welcome.

hmm. so not the same at all. I assumed that they would just use the pot. And the <1mW was a 105??

Re: <1mW leadlight V\'s <5mW leadlight..........Theory

No it was a 105 1mw, it just had a feedback circuit similiar to that found on the 110's.

But you are right the pot can adjust the power right down to 1mw if needed. The 1mw seems to be a 5mw with a feedback assembly caliberated so that any attempt to turn the pot and increase brightness is pointless as the feedback AI is smart... but not so smart when snapped off with a pair of pliers. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hahaha.gif

Ahhh. but still a hell of a lot easier to mod than the 110's then isn't it? What power did you get out of the <1mW?

Re: <1mW leadlight V\'s <5mW leadlight..........Theory

Yes definately easier to mod - no stupid circuits to work out. About 25mw out of that one.

Ok everybody. So when all the <5mW 105's dry up, We just move onto the <1mW 105's. A tiny little bit more work, but there is probably a S*** Load of the <1mW 105's still out there compared to the <5mW.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif 105 - the most faithful and modifiable laser ever created...it shall be remembered.

How about a memorial thread when they phase out?
