ok im attempting my first magmod. ive got 2 mags a c and a d i am goin to mod both. ive got everything i need. i want to make 1 direct drive and the other im using a micropuck driver. my question is which should i make direct drive. i was thinkin the d cell because of the voltage and its easier to convert to 6-8 AA cells. also i have a p4 emitter and a p7 emitter. which should i use in the direct drive and vice versa. thanx

Is it a 3D Mag? That P7 would work nice with three Accupower Low Self-discharge NiMH D-cell Batteries. You could also do the same with a 3C Mag, just not as long runtime. The micropuck is better suited for the p4 anyway since the drive current is much lower.

how many cell mags are they ? such as are they 2D / 2C etc... that will determine what you can do with them as hosts...

ok but if i use the p4 and micropuck in the c cell
i woludnt need to convert it for the 4/5 sub c batteries right aor would it make it brighter

I guess I don't understand fully. The micropuck will be for the p4. Sorry, I forgot it was a boost type driver, so 2C or 2D Alkaline will be fine. You don't need to use a driver for the P7 with 3 4/5 SubC cells, but if you decided to use it in the 2D Mag with the battery adapter, you Will need a buck driver for it, or 2 dummy AA cells. 4 AA cells would be fine Direct Drive, but you cant do all 6 AA cells.

I hope you understand.

If you use the micropuck in the C cell light with 2 C cells, that would work great, no need to modify it to fit 4/5 SC.

yes sorry my mind was moving faster than my fingers could type. i correctted it. yes the c cell is going to use the micropuck diver. but the d cell direct drive im not really sure what to use. any battery recommendations would be helpful. or any other info on how to modify a 2d mag with a p7 emitter.

O.K. If you want to do Direct Drive the P7 in the 2D Mag, you would be best going with 3 1/2D-Size NiMH Rechargeable Batteries. I think using 4 of these will blow up that emitter in a hurry.

or all-battery

or batteryjunction

i think the 2C form factor is a tough host if you wanna make a bright light... my goal is to use my 2C to run 3 MC-E's at 2.8A ... the trick is getting the batteries in this pup ;)

Post up on how that goes! I think the 2C form factor is great, but obviously not as convenient for battery possibilities as a D cell or a longer C cell Mag. I'm going to keep it simple and just run a P7 at 2.4A or so, but something more powerful later on would be fun!
