2r1g1b vs 1r1g1b

Hi folks,
I am new to this forum, so thanks for having me. I have a question regarding LED signs. Does anyone know the difference in using 2 red leds vs 1 led in a full color led sign?
I'm looking at buying a sign but I just can't see why some signs are 2r1g1b and others are 1r1g1b.

The human eye is not especially sensitive to red light, so doubling it up would make reds and red-dependent colors brighter.

I guess it´s good for color rending, not for brightness.
