I have a 3d crafstman flashlight that i bought cause i work at sears and i have just recently became a flashoholic. I own an arc4 rev2, streamlight luxeon 3aa, badboy 400ma dropin for mini maglite, and another dropin on the way with more kroll switches nx05 just to try it over the fraenlp and mineral glass for scratch resistant. I have been hooked. I am very impressed with the badboy 400ma lux3t i ordered so i got another one^ {on the way}but i want to try to but it in my craftsman 3d i think i can do it. but will 3d batteries blow it UP? and what is the easyiest way to convert a light like that or maglite 5d that i got over to a luxeon where can i get luxeon bulbs that are 3w or better bulbs. I know i saw a dual luxeon side emitter bulb replacement somewhere but can't find it again. Any help on this matter will be apreciated!! i am probly more interested in the drop in bulb instead of wasting my dropin on the 3d rather buy another minimaglite for the drop in. The dropin seems brighter than my arc4 rev2 but my arc has a special place in my heart its cool. and i love it but i love my minimaglite too now i cary both on my belt in to diff holsters arc4 is in a knife pouch made for a gerber with the gerber patch taken off and the minimag is in a minimag pouch old style with bottom has hole in it i love both light. Please give me some feedback answers and such. Thank You. and Thanks to Wayne FOr awsome dropins.!SANDWICHES!!!Ok i will shut up now see i am a flashoholic lol

GFX,

Have a look at this thread. It will take you through the intricacies of convertor board selection. There are a few challenges operating at 4.5v.

The drop-in with two LD luxeons is a Terralux product, I don't think they use any regulation circuit for it.

Hope it helps.

The TerraLUX TLE-6 is a regulated 3W using two side emitters. I recently cancelled a retail order since I have word that they won't ship until the end of June at the earliest.

I have several 3W Diamond Replacements. They are Chinese luxes but they are heatsinked and I think regulated.

Thay have 1W, 3W and 5W luxes for Mag 3 C/Ds

I am sending Craig Johnson a 3W for his review. I like these things. They are not as white as an EverLED but have a nice beam pattern in the light. You might want to wait to see what Craig has to say.

I'm not sure, but I think you're asking if you can use a badboy based sandwich in a 3D light. The short answer is NO, you will blow it up. With any boost converter, the Vin must be exceeded by the Vf of the luxeon. The BadBoys and MadMaxes were built to run on 3V.

A good way to go with a 3 1.5V cell light is to direct drive it on the 4.5V (or 3.6V if you use rechargables). You can tailor how hot you run the luxeon by choosing a luxeon with an appropriate Vf. For example, IIRC, I was getting about 1.5A to the led when direct driving a K Vf luxeon in my 3D light. If you want less current going to the luxeon, you can choose a luxeon with an L or M Vf.
