Hmmmmmm
Im currently starting a project that requires me to put 4 AA's in a 2D mag. And NOPE, 4 AA's dont fit in mine.

ALSO...... some of you might be slightly confused... 4 AA's fit about one inch into my 2D mag,,, but no further. They will only fit where the body is threaded. Are all of you that are saying they fit,, sure they went all the way in?

My mag is pretty old,,, im wondering if I get a new one if they will fit.

For all of you that the 4AA's fit,, how new is your Mag?

Id really like to be able to do this without boring it out.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The oldest Mag D light I have is about a year old, and that guy easily accepts 4 AAs side by side...

D2021046546--> My 2D easily grabs 4AAs side by side...
D3027490101--> My 1D Mod I've got accepts 4AAs fine...
D6002689495--> My 6D accepts 4AAs side by side fine...

I do notice on my various C Mags that some don't carry the initial letter "C", and those look like the older models... The newer model Ds may be the ones able to fit 4AAs side by side, and maybe the older D models don't have the "D" designation either???

the new pewter i just picked up the other day won't allow 4 side by side /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

i believe mag reduced id to decrease battery rattle...the one time they update their design and it causes us trouble!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I just bought a new 3D last night, 4AAs fit like a glove. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif(

i can only guess that mag has different manufacturing facilities, and each has slightly different tolerance... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Sorry I haven't posted my mag measurments yet, I forgot about it. I'll get them up tomorrow. FWIW, my holder fits inside both of my new maglights; red one from wally world, and pewter one from target. More to come...

***edited to add metric values***

OK, so here it is as promised. Of the six 3 D cell Mags I have, none are smaller than 1.346" (34.19mm), and none are larger than 1.352" (34.34mm). These are a mix of brand new, to at least 6 years old. All have serial numbers beginning with a "D".

The D batteries I had all measured at about 1.300" plus or minus 0.002" (32.97mm to 33.07mm), and all the AA batteries I had measured 0.554" plus or minus 0.003" (which equates to anywhere from 14mm to 14.15mm). I measured Duracell, Kodak, Energizer, Costco, and Eveready batteries.

My 3D -> 12AA holder measures 1.340" (34.04mm) with batteries when I install it into the maglites. This gives a pretty good fit, with anywhere between 0.003" and 0.006" of clearance on each side, which isn't much, but isn't tight either. Hope this helps some of you out.

I have a very old Mag; no D in the serial number - 1.4 inches (35.5mm).....
