Through the courtesy of 4Sevens I have this Q-MiNi AA2 on hand to test.

I personally have a preference for single celled pocketable flashlights - so when I got this Q-MiNi AA2 I thought this was kind of negating the whole "mini" concept - but then I realized that not everyone is like me - and there is a whole population of people who really like the size of a 2x AA flashlight - witness the immense popularity of the legendary MagLite 2AA MiniMag.

Thinking that way the Q-MiNi AA2 made a lot of sense - here's a 2x AA light that is slimmer and shorter and with the pocket clip it is very portable withOUT any holster along the seam of a pocket.

Size -

I've scaled/sized this photo so that it appears life-sized on my PC monitor @96dpi (Mac monitors would show this @ 133.3% with 72dpi)

As can be seen the Q-MiNi AA2 is substantially smaller than the venerable 2AA MiniMag and noticeably smaller than its other 4Sevens counter part the standard Quark AA2 and Fenix LD20 (actually mine is a kind of made-up Frankenstein LD20 using a PD20 head which is really the same as a LD20 head on a L2D body and tailcap - illustrating well the lego principle) and most impressive is that the Q-MiNi AA2 is not that much larger than the 2x AAA Preon 2 (although I do have the clicky tailcap).

The Q-MiNi AA2 as with the latest 4Sevens Quark lights as well as the Preons use the Cree XP-G R5 - the Fenix LD20 I have uses a XR-E Q5.

vs. Quark AA2 - both on Max and NiMH

the regular Quark AA2-R5 is brighter (spec rated: 206 lumens - Q-MiNi is rated at 180 lumens)

vs. Fenix LD20-Q5 both on their Maximum outputs and NiMH

harder call to make since the Fenix LD20 has a narrower beam so the light is more concentrated than the Q-MiNi AA2. But notice the cooler/bluer tint of the Q-MiNi and the much smoother beam due to 4Sevens' self-centering design.

vs. Preon 2 both on Max and NiMH

despite being on different batteries - the Q-MiNi AA2 and Preon design concepts are close and the output is pretty close too (Ratings; 180lumens for Q-MiNi AA2 and 160lumens for Preon 2)

All in all a pretty worthwhile design giving a pretty portable 2AA light in a very compact body. Its performance was with other 4Sevens light is well thought out and pretty much state of the art.

Thanks Vincent for the great review! This light has caught my attention. Do you have any inside information if this light will eventually be offered in a neutral-white version?

Nice work, Vincent !

Oh, and i really like yer' Copper-color Mini-Maglite.

That's my favorite color.

Many thanks for the kind words.

Wasn't the copper a kind of standard "exclusive" color at Target for a while?

Yes, it certainly was ! ! !

Trouble is, once I decided that i actually wanted to GET some Copper Mini-Mags,
they had been Long-Gone !

After LOTS of running around, i was FINALLY able to find ONE (and only one) !

:hairpull::banghead::mecry::awman:-:stupid:

Story of my Life, eh ?

:sigh:

Great review :)

The MiNi AA2 is a really interesting flashlight, personally I prefer my AA2 Quarks over my 2xCR123's when I take a night walk. And the low profile clip seems to be perfect for pocket carry.
