5 LED fluted aluminum 2AA Light

Is anyone familiar with this light? I suppose it's too much to hope that it it has Opalec-like Step-Up circuitry and regulation. I like the X-5ish fluting on the battery chamber.

Given the relatively massive head, the LED's seem too close together for optimal heat sinking.

Hard to believe anyone would go to the trouble to make what looks like a pretty nice light, and then run white Nichia's on only 2AA cells without a voltage step up circuit. But you never know about some of the oddball lights that are never seen anywhere other than eBay...

How you know there is no step up? I couldn't see anything in the auction that indicated either way.

I don't think any of us know. I sent an inquiry to the seller that hasn't been responded to.

The 30 hour claimed run time does incline me to think that their is no step-up converter, however.

The Photon knock-offs from this sellerr are quite dim. I got some of the ones with clear cases for just $3 each. Good as party favors.

In fact, the 30 hour claims make me think that this might have step up converter. Without converter, it will run much longer due to underdriven.

The same resellers offer 2 types of LED light. One is Japan made (the LED, not the light) while the other one is not. The one you bought is not:-(

Those lights use Japan made LED are very bright.

Wouldn't it be nearly impossible to run even one LED from 2 AA batteries without a booster circuit?
