I have a 6aa-2d adapter that the springs heat up, and shorts out when i put 6 good cells in it what can i do? is there a spacial direction the aa's have to be in? Could i get a replacement if i send mine back, or a refund?

The most common occurance of shorts are related to the outside of the batteries touching each other.

Using bare cells without protective sleeving will probably end up shorting cells out.

Also, inserting the power pack into the tube can scrape the tube threads against the batteries and end up shorting them out.

Did the springs heat up just inserting the batteries or did it occur as you were inserting the battery pack into the tube?

What type of batteries are you using and what brand?

it occured while inserting batteries into the holder. I was using the duracell white top precharged, aa's. negative ends torward the springs

The construction does seam very robust though except for 2 of the springs which heated up and flattened out.

I do know the height spacing of the batteries compress the springs to make a robust connection. Maybe, that distance is on the short side and angling in the batteries is shorting the anode side of the battery.

I do not know. This is very interesting and it would be good to identify what is happening to see if the design can be improved to reduce this effect.

I recently had a 2D 8AA pack returned where two adjacent springs were toasted and the customer was using eneloop batteries.

The jig that sets the height can be adjusted to make inserting the batteries easier and sacrifice some additional series resistance that is in the springs. Not sure that would help the situation or not.

is the 6AA-2D adapter a FiveMega model?
there has been reports of 9AA to 3D adapters shorting out due to a loose nut in the assembly that snugs up the center rod but so far there hasn't been a word on 6AA-2D holders, at least mine seems to hold up:candle:
