All'right, if I'm making a horrible mistake, please tell me because I couldn't find anything on the forum; is it possible to put a 6D stock bulb in a 2D with 3 123s in the adaptor?
I know it works with 6 nimhs but just in case, am I forgeting (or not aware of) something important?
Thanks.

Yeah, people do those mods all the time with 2c and 2aa lights. Three 123's are exactly the same length as two c's or aa's, so all you need is a sleeve to pad out the diameter.

3 123's are a much more compact and shorter-runtime version of 6D's. They will work just fine with a 6D bulb.

I've got a 2D sized Maglite that is running a 5-cell bulb with 3x123 batteries in it, and it is noticeably brighter than a 6-cell bulb running off 9 volts in a Maglite. I've had the same 5-cell Mag bulb in it for quite awhile now, and it still works great, doesn't seem to mind the extra 1.5V at all. I'd give a 5-cell bulb a try, they only cost a couple dollars.
