6P body modification possible?

Hi there CPF !

Firstly I hope this is in the right section!

To cut a long story short a guy I know offered to bore out my 6P on his lathe, little did I know he was a bit of A butcher and not as good as he made out he was.
The result was this

As you can see the threads have somehow sheared off, I have not a clue how he did this! My only guess is that he was being a bit harsh with the reemer and it snagged?

Anyways rather that just bin it i thought I might as well see if there's a modder on here that can do something with it:) I'm not really bothered what it turns out like as long as I can use it for something haha

If anyone can do this or know who can do this I'm all ears :)

I doubt there is enough metal left in the body to re thread for an 18500 or similar. You could buy a SolarForce body and still use your existing tailcap and head.

The only way out I see is have new threads cut, use zero rez shorty mod from oveready.
That "gains" 15mm tube space, so if have lost 15mm or less, you can still use 18650.
 
The body appears to have been overbored the reason the existing threads fell off, I'm sure new threads the same size wouldn't be possible.

I just thaught it may have been good to turn into some kind of ugly Lego haha

I seem to remember a thread a while ago where a guy had a 6P body cut down and I can't remember weather it had an e series tailcap or something :/ I'll do a search see if I can find it!
 
MartinDWhite cuts down MD2 bodies to make MD1 bodies. Pehaps he can make you a 3P, although it might look a bit sad with the logo cut-off.

I think the flats rules that out. MDs don't have flats...

That's why my suggestion for 15mm shorter body - still have round section for threads
 
The body could be brought back to life by cutting the tail back to the main body then internally threading it, allowing a new aluminium or brass tube, threaded at both ends, to be inserted into it.
The problems with that are a bit of bare aluminium or brass would be visible unless the tube was made to allow the tailcap to finish much closer to the body, reducing the length of the battery cavity a bit.

I think £20 is as cheap as i can do but i don't pretend that's a very sensible price as a good condition body can be had for under £30.
Let me know if your still interested but i won't be able to complete this for a week or two due to earlier commitments.

I suspect the bore wasn't 18.5mm, even 18.9mm (solarforce bore) will still give 0.37mm at the o-ring channels.
 
I may take you up on that, I won the whole light on eBay for £13, the head has a nice dint in it where it got dropped but the rest was fine so I used the tail on one Lego and the body on another.

How much do you charge to bore body's out ?

I have another 6P that I want doing and an L60 body on its way that will also want doing, properly this time though haha, they're both brand new :0
 
This happened to me too ^_^ I think folks just don't realize that flashlights could be that precise. "Oh, you need to fit an 18mm diameter cell? I'll bore it to 20mm."

Mine was done at a shop where they make precision parts for lab equipment, so I'm thinking the light was handed off to someone as a practice piece or someone new at lathing. At first, I couldn't understand how they thought that is what I wanted, but then I remembered that there were O-ring grooves, and that is probably what was overlooked.

I bought a new, bored body from a member here on CPF. I only use 18650, so a 16340 or 18350 based light wouldn't do me any good :-P The other one was a gift to me, but a well-used one at that. Not terribly sentimental, but when you are gifted a surefire, you tend to remember it.
 
No I did not pay him an no I'm not giving him a second chance lol, next time he can learn on someone else's who has more cash to replace them, I'm to poor to fund someone's education haha 😝


He actually didn't know what he had done so rather than cause a fuss and potentially embarrass or upset the chap I said thankyou very much and see you again.
