I recently bought a well-used Surefire 6P, and would like to know how to remove the lens for cleaning and/or replacement.

IS there a trick to this? There appears to be some sort of retaining ring outside the lens, with 6 small divots in it. Do I simply use needle-nose pliers in those divots to unscrew the ring, or is there a specific tool for the job.

Also..is there a source for replacement lenses for these critters? I don't see any listed on the Surefire site.

Thanks in advance.

The SureFire bezel you describe is not designed nor intended to have the window removed by the end-user. The retaining ring is 'glued' in place although it can be unscrewed if you are careful and of course you do this at your own risk

If the window is damaged I suggest you give SureFire a call - they may be able to help you.

I wish Sure-Fire still made the lens replacement kits. I have a vintage C3 that I don't want to replace the bezel on, but I'd like to get a new window for it.

I think there are some aftermarket options such as UCL, but none in pyrex that I know of.

That's exactly what the ring on my light looks like, but I tried to loosen it with forceps, and it didn't want to budge. Maybe I'll hit it with the heat gun.

Hopefully the heat gun does the trick for you. If not, then acetone might also help loosen any glue. Use it carefully. And test it first in an inconspicuous area to make sure it won't harm the finish you're working on.
