Hi all, first post so apologies if basic questions…

I have an Olight Maurader X7R and the batteries have died and the leds just flashes red/green when inserting the USB C charging cable.

Upon opening, I can see that the cells are 4xSamsung 30Qs connected in pairs in parallel.

These cells are easily available : https://www.nubattery.co.uk/samsung-30q-18650-battery but not connected with tabs as a pack.

My questions…..

1.) Should I replace like for like and if so, does anyone know where I can get someone in the U.K. to spot weld the tabs in pairs?

2.) Is it worth replacing the cells with any other recommendation cells ?

3.) should I stay with unprotected cells or swop to a protected variety,

4.) Do the cells need to be tabbed anyway?

5l) Has anyone replaced the cells in the X7R?

Thanks for any advice.

I would contact Olight and see what they would be willing to do for you first. They now have a lifetime warranty, although I don't know when you bought yours. They supposedly have great customer service. The worse thing is they won't do anything for you and the best being they just might. All your investing is the time to make a call. DYI battery things especially since batteries can explode is something I personally would avoid if possible.

Have you tested the cells to see if they are what is causing the issue I wouldn't want to take the effort/money to replace cells if it is actually something else causing problems.

As suggested, you can contact Olight and ask for best moves forward. If it is an older light, it may cost you shipping. If all is well, but a new batt pack is needed you'll know at least that much.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, well versed at the very real dangers of li-ion and take all the necessary precautions, you might want to go the route of building your own pack. But that has its own obvious potential dangers. It doesn't look hard to me...but I'm looking from my desk on the internet. And I'm dumb. ;)
