Any lights take a 9V battery?

It's the only reasonably common battery type that I don't have a light for yet.

Pak-Lites and PAlights are good lights but a bit overpriced though...

You can make one for a couple of bucks and pot it with epoxy. 9V lights are really minimalist and by far the simplest to DIY, loads of tutorials on YT and popular science sites.

Cheers

While checking out Pak-lites I found that Eveready has a 9V light called the blocklite that has 9 leds and seems to run around $9.

I prefer the PALights, and I don't think there overpriced :p

Same here. The Pak-Lite is certainly the smallest, but I hate the exposed LED's, they throw glare into my eyes if I don't keep a finger over them to shade the ring of light thrown to the side.

The PALights have a bezel to throw only the usable part of the beam. Some are a raw flood, like the Handyman, and others use a focusing lens, like the Selector, which really throws, if that is what you want. They do have to be opened to change the battery, but not very often, and it is not hard. And they all BOUNCE when dropped! The standby glow mode really works nice for locating them in the dark, and does last up to 2 years running 24/7. The Handyman model is my personal favorite, the low mode is actually lower than the lowest of the seven modes on the Selector, and the flood type beam is most useful. Changing the battery is easy with just a penny, it uses a locking solid base plate. It includes a clip to attach to things like your belt, and has a magnet so you can put in on the fridge for quick access, or a fender when changing a tire. I think it is the only model that you can turn the glow feature off if you really don't want it.

Enjoy the 9 volts, they are more sensible than I ever would have imagined. I have never bought batteries for them, because they run like new on mostly dead ones, and folks tend to toss them from smoke detectors with over half their life left.

+1 for the pak-light. I have one of the older ones and it always goes with me in my backpack. Its nice to know that you can have light all night for several nights if you get stuck out there! Making one does sound interesting, I might have to try that.

I just picked up a blocklite on Amazon. I'm really pleased with what it is for $9.00

Here is a copy of my review:

I bought my BlockLite from "Bubble Star". Shipped extremely quickly from Texas.

The flashlight comes with an EverReady 9V battery. All you do is snip off the plastic wrap and start using it.

The center position is "OFF". Flip the slide switch right and the middle two LED's light up for "LOW". Flip it to the right and all six LED's light up for "HIGH". Feels like a good quality switch. The light seems pretty solid overall.

The beam has a very good color for "cool" white 5mm LED's. I have a dislike for blue/purple beams. I was very pleased that the LED's in this light are better than most.

The beam angle is quite good for both up-close work a few inches away and peering across the room or walking around the house.

The heavy duty battery was measured at 10.1 open circuit voltage. Here is the current draw from this battery:
"OFF" 0mA
"LOW" 35 mA
"HIGH" 78 mA

Next, I hooked up a Tenergy Centura low-self-discharge Ni-MH 200 mA*h regchargeable battery that was recently charged and reads 9.3 open circuit voltage. Here is the current draw from this battery:
"OFF" 0mA
"LOW" 33 mA
"HIGH" 87 mA

I wonder if this has a driver or if it's just a set of dropping resistors. Also, it's hard plastic so it might not survive very well after a fall. Regardless, I think it is very good value and would recommend giving it a shot.

Rigel Systems "mini" series lights. I have had a Moonlight mini by my bed for many years. The light is a bit blue and square but it does what it is supposed to do, uses a 9 volt battery that lasts for months with my usage. I use it every night to insure all is secure inside the house before retiring for the night. It is probably the only thing I have in the house that uses the 9 volt battery.

9Vs are a great emergency cell to use. During the week long Hurricane Sandy power outages on Eastcoast, they were the only cells available in stores. I gut them and run the 1.5v AAAAs in my AA lights. I got ~ 300/50 hrs on 0.3/3 lumens from a QAAX - that's all I need. Also EDC everything I need to use them on the fly. I have solar chargers, 12v chargers and an RV generator at home, but its always nice to have more options.

We've used Pak-lites for years and years. We like the Originals and Supers but have no use for the economy model. I'm another who would jump on a covert model if they would make one.

Sub- Covert like the Photon Freedom, with the shrouds around the LED's? :) I'd buy a few for sure. I shut my Pak-Lite off after six months, it was still running. Tam17's looks cool, what with the momentary high mode. Very nice!
