I've just started "the Golden Ratio" by Mario Livio. The Story of PHI. I'm only in the second chapter and it has some basic number therory and explanation which is very good. Reminds me of Isaac Asimov's factual work. Or a more sophisticated "Donald Duck in Mathamagic Land"

Anyhow with the eclectic interests of many here I thought I'd mention it.

Phi is a very interesting number -- there is a nice discussion of phi in Donald Knuth's classic The Art of Computer Programming, Vol. 1, Fundamental Algorithms, 3rd Ed., pp. 13, 80-81.
