A hole in my A14 Adaptor!

Just knowtise there is a hole in my A14! Its nicely drilled through.. Isit suppose to be like this?

Water leaked into my torch when submerged. Makes no sense! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The hole is around 3/4mm in size... very small

It makes sense when your flashlight doesn't explode though.

SureFire rechargeables have this hole to allow any gas produced by the NiCad battery stick to be safely vented.

but it totally ruins the water resistance capability of this torch. The thing is i am not using Ni-MH. Instead i am using litium-ion batteries

Does Lithum ion battery have a history of venting gas?

If you want to risk it, why not put some waterproof superglue into the hole or something?

The "vent capacity" is a safety feature all products using or storing rechargeable batteries should have (I believe).

thanks for your advice... i am currently using insulation tape to tape it up.... shove a vacum on one end and no leaks at all!

I've got at least seven A14's, and not one of them has a hole in it.

Is this something new?

The Nitrolon adaptor that makes my G2 into a rechargeable (using B65 batt) has the hole as well.

are you sure? maybe you got mixed up between the A14 and A19?

The A19 is to convert your 6P to 9P
While the A14 is to convert your 6P to a rechargeable.

are you sure? maybe you got mixed up between the A14 and A19?

The A19 is to convert your 6P to 9P
While the A14 is to convert your 6P to a rechargeable.

I'm sure. I also have several A20's, which convert the 9P to a 6R, and they don't have any holes either. I also have lots of A19's. No holes in those either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Perhaps it is sometimes new, I'm not sure. But, given the age of these parts "new" could be a change made to part manufacturered 5 years ago.

Think its for safety.. No point they put an O-ring for the A14. No point at all! SHove your torch in a basin of water and when you open up your torch, you'll see water everywhere! They should make a one-way valve or something.

Its really stupid to see an O-ring beside a hole. The hole is for water entry and the O-ring to resist water!

The o-ring isn't just for waterproofness.
O-rings are using between threaded components to enhance the motion (control, maintain position etc), and to protect the threads.

Take off the o-ring and you'll see what a difference it makes.

Interesting. So, SureFire uses just a hole, and not a simple ball bearing valve, or molecular sieve, like many engineers typically do, for other products?

Yup. Just a simple hole... Water can go in (or out)

No valve of any sort to make it a one-way road for venting gas
