A question on LEDs...

I see LEDs that change color (amber/green/red) all the time on small electronics. Why doesn't this technology lend itself to flashlights? I haven't seen one LED flashlight that can do this. Any opinions on why?

They are using a dual-led, red/green and some electronics to indicate battery voltage

You don't need a voltage indicator on a flashlight, the output light itself will tell you

Someone mentioned that on your light, compareing it to the New Beam with the low indicator LED. They said when your dropin starts to dim, consider that your low battery indicator. Then you have about 15 hrs (or more) to get some new ones. :>) TX

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I don't think anyone makes a bright multicolor LED. All the multicolor ones I've seen have been low output, suitable for use as an indicator. They're not just used for low voltage indicators, some of our servers have them to indicate on/standby status, and other things. Saves space, and looks cool.

Have you seen the products that have RGB LEDs running off of a chip? They can sequence through many shades of colors. The link Tsao posted shows one.

The LM3914 is such a chip, it will divide the reference point into 10 linear steps and then have 10 comparators to drive a bargraph or ind dot
