I went to see a dermatologist for a rash that was developing on my elbow. Said I needed a cortizone shot in the rear for it. As I am typing, I am um... sitting on a solo cheek... I don't remember it feeling so sore when I got a shot there as a kid. When was your last shot in the rear? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I think she just wanted to see your hinie. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif

Did you tell her you're a church man?

Yup, that's where dermatologists put it. I had one there about 7 years ago /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I had a minor rash on my chest and went to the dermatologist. Before I knew it whack into the left cheek. Mighty cheeky I'd say.

I saw Dr Doolittle give a shot in the butt if that helps, she couldn't just stay away from those shellfish /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I remember when I was in pre school I was sick during the night and the doctor did a home visit... I can't remember what it was but I got a shot in the rear... Needless to say I was not a fan of his work /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/whoopin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They will tell you that it hurts less there than in the arm, but I"m not convinced this is actually true /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I think I'd rather have a sore arm for a while /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I just got a pneumonia vaccine shot in my arm and its still hurting like someone frogged my arm a really good one and I am on narcotics for my back problems and they were not even touching the pain. If they gave me that in the stern I would be flat on my stomach (unable to stand for any period of time)

Fifteen or so years ago I was bitten by A Brown Recluse on my ankle.
It started rotting out a hole straight through between the bone and tendon
Got shots in both cheeks and could hardly drive to the drugstore to get the prescription filled. I walked real funny for a week or so. I waited a few days before going to the Doctor I thought it would get better with the Neosporin I was using.Sometimes it is better to go to the doctor

Cortizone? Your lucky it wasn't gamaglobulin- viscosity of STP and usually given in 10cc doses. Better hope you have a "nurse" with a strong thumb or you'll be bent over for a while. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Been there twice and still remember! (USMC /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rant.gif and they never told us what for.)

I used to get a medication that had to be delivered via intramuscular injection like that. The doc gave me a choice of getting it in the arm, the upper thigh, or, uh, there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif I chose the upper arm, and later when I learned to administer it muyself I switched to the thigh. It was tolerable.

This is puzzling, how does doctors differentiate when a jab is supposed to be given on the arm and when on the hinie?

I'm no doctor but I always just assumed it had to do with how painful the shot is. The behind has more muscle for nastier shots. IIRC the shot series for rabies is so bad that they are given in the abdominal muscles, and they used to mark the spot after each shot because they were too painful to give two in the same spot. But then...I'm no doctor.

I might be wrong, but I think rabies shots are not given in the abdomen any longer. I believe they're now given in the arm. There have been a few farmers around here that have had to get them. IIRC, they are given a series of shot initially, and then more within a few weeks or so. There are still a lot of injections required, and the entire process takes more than a month. Beats the alternative, though.

So here is part two of the story. Apparently cortizone is a type of steriod that messes with your internal clock... meaning your body may think that it is daytime when it is night. I was up till 7am this morning with my eyes WIDE open. Man, what a strange night...

I think it was April 15...

Yeah, I get a shot in the rear EVERY April 15th! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crackup.gif

I've only had the misfotrune of getting a shot in the rear once. That was plenty. It was a penicillin shot during Basic. It was kind of funny though watching 80 guys trying to sit still afterwards with only one cheek touching.
I'd always thought that flu shots were the worst until I got my first anthrax shot. That thing was killer! At least the pain only lasted a few hours though.

I've heard of those gammagobulin shots. Aren't supposed to boost your immune system for a short period of time? tvodrd, Were you getting ready for a short notice deployment maybe?
