What is the indentation around the tailcap of the A2 for? Is it for holding the light in your mouth while using your hands for other tasks? I can't think of any other use it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
I beilev it was to hold a rubber shroud like that on the "clickie" tailcaps (a better use -- one of McGizmo's excellent clips).
 
Try this Mrdi, take a piece of cord (I use paracord myself) and cut it to double the lanyard length you want. take the two ends and with one end tie a simple overhand knot around the other end about two inches in from it's termination, then take the leftover end (the two inch one passing through the knot) and tie another overhand knot around the cord that is already knotted this makes a small loop with a knot to either side of it. Slip the loop over the end of the A2 guide the cord into the groove by the cap and pull both sides of the cord till the knots slip and tighten the loop. A cool lanyard that can be removed simply by slipping the knots back to loosen. This is called a "fishermans knot" ( there are also double and triple versions) there is also a more complicated version of this called an "adjustable bend". If I had a digital camera I'd show you a picture, but I don't.

ygbsm is right.

The channel in the two-stage TailCap for the A2 and L1 was originally intended for a rubber shroud. Field-trials found that people removed it as it served no major purpose.
Now it is a means of reducing weight, but also allows accessories to be attached to the TailCap.
CPF members have come up with some cool things to attach.
I'd be silly to say that SureFire haven't a few ideas of their own.

Hey Al it would be cool if they came up with a mounting bracket that fit the groove. You could mount it in a plane cockpit or your vehicle. With a mounting bracket for aircraft emergencies it would give new meaning to the name Aviator eh?

Look in my older threads on L1 and A2 for pics of tailcap lanyard.
 
I wish they would have left the rubber shroud on it, I liked the idea. Now when I look at my A2, it looks like somethings missing. Plus, since I carry it in my pocket I would have used the rubber shroud. I guess there is no way to get one either?

It's taken me 51 years as of today to acquire the tools and rudimentary skills required but the satisfaction and experience overall has been well worth it. I hope I never stop learning or attempting something new.

You being da man with the surefire mods, would it be possible to install three luxeons in the head of an A2 without changing the regulator, or would you need new electronics? I realise there is a BIG difference between luxeons, and 5mm leds, and there probably wouldn't be enought current to power the luxeons would there? It would be cool if you could make such a light though. There would probably be issues with heat as well wouldn't there? What if you could under drive them? You would still get more light than the standard leds. Just a thought, and it is late, and I am tired, so if this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever just ignore this post, and continue on with your normally sceduled life. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A 5W Luxeon will not work in place of the incandescent bulb either. Get some sleep! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well before 51 more years have past, I will have returned my borrowed star dust back to the planet and perhaps I will be modding in a different dimension or just plain forgotten. However there will likely be some strange titanium parts living in some land fill as fit as the day I made them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif You on the other hand, will be a stately gent with really big feet and ears and a nose trying to catch up (funny how those parts keep growing, yes?)
