I just have two new arcs and the positive battery contact on them has already some 'deep'
(-overreacting-) scratches and dents...is this normal?

The contact is just a glob of solder, right?
So I can fix it myself, hmm?

Yes, it's just a glob of solder. Since the solder is rather soft, I won't be suprised that it has some dents on it. I would not worry about it unless it's not making good contact. If you really don't like the way it looks, you can reform it using a soldering iron.

I actually have an Arc AAA LE that had no solder on it what so ever from the looks of it - just raw unetched pcb. I ended up starting to wear it away a bit too much for my liking so I put some solder on it my self. It works just as good as the day I got it and I have the peace of mind it's gonna stay that way. The only issue is that I destroyed the foam ring in the process so I gotta get around to tossing Peter a SASE so I can stop that damm battery rattle (and I need a new o-ring too because of wear). The moment I put a battery in it after - the solder blob had a good nice dent in it so I know it's getting good contact.
