As a girl and new to the joys of flashlights (this is my first post) I would like some advice as to what would be a good first purchase for a lady.

I would especially like to know if a more feminine case colour exists. I would really like something in pink. It should be small and bright and fit in my handbag.

Thanks,

Hayley /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Welcome to the board!

I guess it depends on what size you want. A good keychain light with differnet case colors are the Princeton Tec Pulsars. I little bigger but one that still fits on a keychain is the ARC AAA. You can get it with a natural finish, sort of a grey. If you want something a little larger check out the Princeton Tec Rage and Attitude. These are available with translucent cases.

I don't think I've seen one of the more better flashlights with a pink case. If you want one of those you might have to settle for red or blue. I think that's because most of the manufacturers cater to males.

Take a look at Brightguy.com. He has a pretty good selection.

Thanks for that , but what is a madmax module? I am a girl remember so my knowledge is very limited!!

A madmax module is a "sandwich" made by one of the members on this board who modifys things. It uses a very bright LED call luxeon star.

LEDs have the advantage of not burning out like a normal incandescent lamp, also they are shock proof and emit (usually) white light that some might call cold since usually it's a little bluish or purplish. Sometimes they may come a little greenish. But it's the manufacturer's fault. This usually only applies to Luxeon star LEDs used in the madmax module

The module (sandwich) is something which you place inside your Minimag 2AA light as a replacement for the original lamp. There are also other modules out there like the Badboy 400 and the Badboy 500.

The Badboy 500 (BB500) should be brighter than the Badboy 400 (BB400) because it's circuits pass more power to the LED, thus making it brighter, but depending on luck of draw, some Luxeon Star (LS) LEDs can be less bright than others. Meaning you may get a BB400 that's brighter than a BB500. There's no guaranty.

Surf around this forum long enough and soon you'll know all the abbreviations, "codenames" and stuff. You'll learn a lot of things too.

And also, welcome to the forums. I hope you'll enjoy your stay here.

Welcome Hayley. Unfortunatly I`m a boy, so my knowledge is...well, I don`t have any. But, I`ve never let that stop me from giving advise. The new Streamlight Cliplight has great "cute value" and is bright as well. The Arc AAA is, as others have said, one great light. Perhaps Peter Gransee could be begged, pestered or otherwise manipulated to have a limited, special edition run...The Lady Arc...pink...hmmm, not sure about that. Maybe gold??

Dear KenB,

A man with insight - advice without knowledge has never stopped any man I know!

I think the torch world is neglecting the lady buyer. I saw a picture of an Arc AAA with a nice turquoise light but the case is not pretty. Better start a petition for Peter G. Well with me that makes one signature!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks KenB, and others for your help.

Some manufacturers/dealers offer to etch things and such for a fee, like a company logo or something. Mabey you could negotiate for a design or such to be put on it to make up for the ugly color? Like, a rose or something on a red flashlight.
*shrug*
My old maglite had "Club" written on the side /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Btw, like tkl said, it's not that you're a girl, you're just new. For example, I still don't know what the heck I'm talking about 1/2 the time /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Purple SureFire
It is reasonably small, and very bright. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

btw, welcome to CPF! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hope this helps,

Hayley the other option would be to offer $ to somone to redo the anodize on the light of your choice. A bit drastic yo think? You haven't been around here long enough to see drastic then /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif . Princeton Tec does have some nice lights in less manly colors.

The search for the perfect light!

Welcome Hayley ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif Nice to have a lady around here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hayley,

How about a Princeton Tec Eclipse or Photon Key chain lights? I personally like the Princeton Tec Eclipse because of its "cool factor". You can select five different modes of function such as level of brightness and rate of strobe effects. It also comes in different color cases to suit your color preferences...

Well After a lot of searching I finally found a pink flashlight, unfortunately it's a bit large (hey you didn't say how big your handbag was /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

ok seriously for something that is very functional and small enough to easily fit in a handbag, you may want to take a look at a PALight

Not much bigger than a 9v battery and available in many colors.

Hope that helps /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hello Hayley, and Welcome! It`s nice to have a gal amongst all of us guys. Ditto on x-ray`s suggestion on PALight. If my memory serves me correctly, I think they offer a pink case color. I will tell you my wife`s two choices of flashlights-because she wanted something small and not heavy to use. Around the house she uses a blue(her favorite color) AA maglite. I put a nexstar xenon bulb in it(easy mod). They are available from Brinkmann Corporation-part no. 802-1053-0. You get two bulbs for $4.95. You can get the AA mini-mag for around $10 or less. Her second light for the car is a Streamlight Scorpion. Sorry, but I think the are only available in black. They are small, very lightweight, and very bright! Adjustable beam and use lithium batteries. It is available from many of the companies discussed in this forum and so are the lithium batteries. It runs around $30 and if you shop around a little you can get the lithium batteries for around $1.25-$1.50 each. Let us know what light you buy. I will be interested in which flashlight you choose!

I found this

at flashlightking.com
A lot of the LED mods seem to be pretty much drop-in, but as is it's still an incandecent. And it isn't pink, but sure cheaper then the other purple one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

X-Ray,

HOW many LED's is that pink light got?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't own one (unfortunately), Just found it while looking for a pink flashlight for Hayley.

It's a first generation Tektite Expedition 1900, these had 19 LED's in the same housing as the Expedition 300.

Eppescorner have these on close out at $79.67.

I've seen all kinds of just LOVELY colors at Wal-mart.

Best of all, they are sooo inexpensive, you could get a whole set!

While we all here on CPF appreciate the beauty of a well made product, light output, runtime, functionality, durabality, and other technical issues usually take priority over color.

Anyway, good luck on your search for a pink light!

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Welcome Haley, I am not sure how much you want to spend but I ordered a surefire e1e in the gun metal color, my wife loved it the minute she saw it. My e1e is gone and I have not seen it since. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif She thought it was pretty.
