I recently bought a Aleph A19-XRE head on the market place and then just today acquired a two stage McGizmo tail cap (twistie, little pressure low level, further pressure high level)

I know that the tail cap works as I have tried it on my SF L4 and it gives the 2 levels.

I cant get the switch to give 2 levels on the A19-XRE head, am I just being thick :D or will it not work for some reason?

Thanks in advance

I certainly am not "fresh" on this but there are various resistor configurations which are somewhat specific to the converter involved for the two stage operation. If you can identify what the resistor value is in your two stage tail cap as well as what kind of converter is in your A19 head, it might ease those who are fresh on this to comment on your situation.

Flippen heck, a reply from the man :D

Thanks for that, I've not a clue how to do either of those tasks so will have to look into it.

The for sale thread I bought the head on stated it had a GD800 driver

Oops, didn't see your latest post.

The only thing I can see written on the circuit board looks like

ED
REVOL

I'm not sure of the E on the top line, I have used a jewelers eye glass but the letters are very small.

Ah, so you saw what I said:)
I don't know much about the GD boards, and thought I'd read that they worked with the McE2S tailcaps.
However, they did apparently replace the Wizard2 boards(strange though it was to drop the option of using two primaries), which did not work with the McE2S.
Not adding anything constructive, just letting you know why I was saying to look at the board before...

I think I know the reason for this.

With GD drivers, only a very low resistance works.
I have a McE2S with 7.5 ohms resistance for my GD750.
I found that although 5 ohms works well, the tailcap heats up too quickly.
With 10 ohms, the light coming out of the led is too low (its very faint)
Therefore 7.5 ohms was the best compromise.

With most other drivers like NG, DB, etc. the resistance in the 2-stage tailcap needs to be much higher to provide the same low level.

Therefore I would think that the resistor in your 2-stage tailcap is probably too high for the GD.

And the worst problem is, resistor boards are not availible anymore, nor are McE2s units. I tried to find a 5,7.5 or 10 ohm board on B/S/T not too long ago, I think people are hanging on to them. If there is a dab of paint on the screw holding the switch together, that helps ID it. Otherwise just disassemble the switch and measure the board with an ohmmeter. I have a Wiz2 500 engine that won't change levels either but the lowest resistor I have is a 15 ohm.

Thanks for all the info, I think I will just stick with a nice single level switch :D
