Lets start off with a 8" image at 20 feet:

Toss in the 3W Luxeon shooting from upstairs:

Watch the movie:

Check it out at +32,000 Lux at 1 Meter (add those zeros on the bottom to the reading, and note the F indicates fluorescent corrected, daylight setting would be much higher, note it is all focused within the sensor):

3w1meter.jpg

Oops, actually a 90 foot shot, before I fixed emitter centering, thus the coma and color fringe:

Mid-flood setting, 15 ft away, ~ 5ft dia flood, blue wall:

Boost Inverter efficiency plot (sky blue line is for the 3W luxeon at 1A):

More details to follow...

(btw, imho, the Fraen and NX-05 optics suck bad)

Questions?

Cool,

Hmmm, I wish an alien would visit me and hand me a flashlight light that!

looks good! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

could you pleaseresize your pics a bit? 800pixels wide is about the maximum width to be tolerated.

Alien for sure! Dang.

I do second what Roth says though. I'd like to set a 750 pixel wide limit. If you want to show them big, please just include a link to the wider ones. Thanks!

There are a lot of seriously cool people on CPF. I wish i would have as much fun doing my job as, say, tvodrd, Jarhead, and CNC Dan to name a few.

Not these specific ones, but lenses in general, and stages containing lenses.

This is all at home Mark, including the scope and such.

But I do use Luxeons at work for something a little fancier...

MRD 74, something dang close to this can be found at BGMicro, think LEN1029 is of the same design.

Great pics, Jarhead! This looks like a supercool optic for sure.

Wayne, I think you *are* an alien already...who else would make all those cool converter boards?

Ok, so what I get from this is you get a super tight beam with little to no spread at distances. Details, and picture of how the lens is mounted to get tightest focus! This is tighter beam than any reflector out there right?

I want to do this now with a colored luxeon... How well do 5W's focus with this? More details!

EDIT: Hmm. Would projector lenses from slide projectors do the same? Or do they need to be bigger? Would be nice if you could use the housing tube and mount a heatsink into it with the right focus and all setup, and then just mount a handle with batteries. I WANT A LUXEON LASER! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
BTW is it just one lens you are using, or a combination?

not sure that a projector lens would give you a tight beam

Sometimes there is one or two "aspherical" lenses before this in the optics train that would work nice...think back towards the bulb end.

More details please! I want to see how the optic is mounted over the LED for tightest focus. It seems to make every photon come out directly straight from the die hense the die image on the wall. All in parallel. Now if only we could get optics to do this and converge them into a smaller spot before it straightens them out!

I think the die image on the wall is not with the 2", but a multilens setup.

Cameralens or something, IIRC
