These just came in the mail today. I had a Fenix L2D as my "stay in the car" light but my car was broken into (not locked) and that was taken among other things. So, I decided to try a couple of DX small lights in the hopes of finding something I wouldn't feel the need to leave in the car and could just take with me.
The Ultrafire 602c was my first choice (and still is) but the Alkoray looked nice so I ordered them both.
The UF is about the size of a cigarette. It's light weight and twists in the middle to turn on and off. It's bright using 1 AAA. No modes. Perfect. If someone wanted to use it on a keychain it would be best to put a string through the two holes and then put that through the key chain. Otherwise, the holes are too small.
I'll just going to put it in my pocket as is. It has a light OP reflector. Not much more to say about it other than it's perfect for what it is.
The Alkoray is supposed to be 220 lumens on high but using 1 CR123a I think it's more like 100 lumen. Maybe it's brighter with RCR123...who knows.
It has 5 modes (hi,med,lo,fast strobe,SOS) and mode memory. It uses PWM and some people have had problems or at least noticed a hum on med, and low settings. My light doesn't have that issue.
The threads are a little rough unlike the UF602c which was very smooth. It has a light OP reflector as well. I suppose the benefit to this light over the UF would be that the low mode would greatly extend the battery life. Low is supposed to be 80 lumen but that's nonsense. I'd say it's more like 40 lumen.
Given the price ($15 and $13 respectively) I'm glad to have both of them around but the UF with it's utter simplicity and smaller size is the one that will get used more.
This one has a driver obviously but I don't think it's constant current regulated so I'm guessing it will be quite useful for a while even at lower current as the battery goes down for the kind of things I would be using such a small light for anyway.
I have a Proton Pro on it's way primarily for it's lower ramping abilities so I think the PP and the UF will be the lights I'll actually use the most...we'll see.
I'm already finding some of the 3 AAA lights that I have to be large and heavy. A few weeks ago I would have considered them small.
