Alright...what\'s the best Mag mod with throw?

What's the best mod (relatively easy) to do with a Mag for the best throw? I want something I can use NiMh with...also I would like it to be a 2D...and just maybe a 3D. I'm quite happy with a standard mag and everled at it's tightest...if it's anything better than that I will be quite happy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

space neddle, not nex neddle

Re: Alright...what\'s the best Mag mod with throw?

Check out the thread about putting high-power Welch-Allyn bulbs in a Magcharger. Completely simple mod and stupendous light levels.

I want something equvilant to a Space Needle, that doesnt use those expensive, hard to find 123 cells.

Then you need larger mag body that accepts 5 D cells battery or get Elektrolumens blaster. In any case, Blaster is better because it is come preassembled.
Hold on, you want to mod your own light? get a bigger mag body or wait until WayneJ got his 3 to D converter.

Re: Alright...what\'s the best Mag mod with throw?

You need to transfer the guts of the Space Needle II to a 2D mag body and drive it off of 6AAs... Then you can avoid the 123 crunch...

Re: Alright...what\'s the best Mag mod with throw?

You could run a Blaster VI direct drive, some people are doing that. There's a 6AA holder for it too.

Re: Alright...what\'s the best Mag mod with throw?

The Blaster series lights won't be able to keep up with an SNII in terms of beam throwing distance though. No collimator-based light will be able to beat out a reflector-based light...

For that reason, a direct drive 5W LS in a mag head would do wonders in a good throwing light...

FalconFX....
LOL, I just mentioned the 2D mag with 6 AA's in tthe other thread. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Guess we are somewhat on the same page.

But dont pay to much mind to me, I'm just a newbie. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I tend to get creative, and then realize,,,, welp that was stupid. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

You need to get yourself a Megaclops made by Lambda.
You can find them here:Lambda Lights .
These latest ones have emitters ranked W2, the same rank as the one in my Space Needle 2.

jtice, what do you call expensive for cr123 batteries, surefire sells them for 12 for $15, other places sell them for $1 each. Now if you go to your local drug store you can pay $8 to $9 each and that would be expensive.

I agree. I have a two Arc LS and an extra 2AA tail, but I find that when I buy CR123 by the dozen (or more), I am MUCH more likely to use them and enjoy them than if I bought them one at a time for $8 each.
So, I leave the 2AA tail on one Arc and use NiMH batteries, and I keep the other arc loaded with the CR123 tail. I end up using the 123 loaded arc more because...well... it is way cool!.

Re: Alright...what\'s the best Mag mod with throw?

There's always that convenience of buying rechargeables for that 6AA battery holder and forget about batteries again (unless you're camping or in an emergency, of course, and even then, AAs are still cheaper than 123s)...

Obviously, there are those small applications, where I wouldn't mind sticking a CR123 into a McLux or ArcLS to retain a small light, and the price reduction does help, but when you go all out 5W-10W LS in a mag body and blaring Amperage drain, rechargeables reign almighty...

Re: Alright...what\'s the best Mag mod with throw?

Oh I would never go to a local store for them.
But,,, yes I would call $1 each expensive.. Im a cheap bas****. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I just dont wont to have a cool light, and find myself not running it as much as I would like to just because of batt cost.

$1 each isnt to bad for what they are. But compaired to AA's its nuts, and really nuts compaired to rechargables. Maybe I should invest the money needed to charge 123's.

Mainly.... If I get something running off 123's, thats ANOUTHER battery type I have to have now. Im already up to AA's, D's and C's. And I'd like to eliminate the D's. LOL (too big and heavy)
