Amish LEDs

Just saw this article on Fark: Buggies With Brights.

I'm not quite sure what they mean by "the new Luxeon LED is not electrical and therefore complies with Amish standards" though.

It looks like the Amish can charge from solar and it's ok. Incandessents were OK but had to be charged a lot. LEDs don't need as much charging. My "Not electrical" I think they mean it doesn't connect to mains.

Correct, Saaby. Battery and alternate charging methods are fine. Commercial power is not. This does not apply to all that are lumped into 'Amish', as there are sects that are so narrow minded, they make Revs. Phelps (defrocked), Robertson, and Falwell looked downright Liberal. There are also those who are not strictly observant and welcome things like plumbing and sometimes commercial power, even motor vehicles.
