That was my first thought as well, until I hovered on the pictures for a close up. It appears to be gold paint or annodizing.:sick2:

I believe they came out with that torch around the time of the beijing olympics.
Perhaps a stretch but, it looks to be an emulation of the olympic torch.

That would be my educated guess for it's design choice. How well it was executed is another story...

LOL - normally I would close this as a contravention of Rule 6, but it is actually pretty funny!

There's no way that could be brass - the metal alone (not to mention machining it) would cost more than the light. It must be cheap Al with gold paint or equivalent. You could probably put a scratch on it with your fingernail.

Mrs. DM51 has something in the kitchen that looks fairly similar which I think she uses for mashing potatoes, shredding carrots, beating empty cans flat, etc.
