An idea has struck me, but it requires machining

I had an epiphany for a light design that would be AWESOME for emergency applications (LEOs, first-responders, emergency equipment for buildings, etc.), inspired by my Snake Eyes light. The idea would result in a waterproof, armored Luxeon based light that could quite possibly be stout enough to get hazardous locations certification from UL and would CERTAINLY be tough enough to work for folks that need a light from which failure is not an option.

Problem is, it'd require some machine work that I don't have the tools to perform.

Are there any enterprising CPFers that might be interested in helping build a couple prototypes? And, if the idea works, possibly be interested in making them commercially?

I have access and knowlege on a CNC mill or lathe. I would be more than willing to do something new.

The nutshell is an all aluminum version of my Snake Eyes light. Of course I already have some design changes in mind to make it more durable and allow for much easier battery changes, and the resulting changes should also make it waterproof to a decent depth. (The changes also allow larger optics, with multiple beam angles becoming possible.)

I'm working on the drawings for it now, but I'm gonna want some sort of agreement with whoever wants to take this design on, to not share the design with anyone should it be commercially viable - I've fielded 12 requests for one or more of the Snake Eyes lights already, so there's at least SOME tiny amount of commercial potential. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, if Kodiak has access to and knowledge of CNC mills, you're better off to go with him. I only have a little tabletop mill. I'd love to see the finished product, though! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

DSpeck:

Many thanks for the offer - as it turns out, the handheld flashlight idea will be doable on a tabletop mill. The larger industrial version, OTOH, might be around the max for what a tabletop mill can handle.

Kodiak:

Would you mind if I bounced some idas off you via E-mail? A forum's a bit too open to post details on, all things considered. I also can do IRC with ease if you'd prefer a more realtime venue for discussing the idea.

Okay, just got another three requests for the light, one of them from here...

Bumpage!

I'm getting still MORE requests. I wanna explore the commercial possibilities of this thing now. Anyone interested? Kodiak?

I am interested and will keep any information sent confidential. I have a good patent attorney as well and will send you contact information if you would like.
The best of luck to you Oddone.
