Two new mods. The first, Grey Arc, is just a simple mod that uses a cut down Mini Mag reflector and a plastic lens.

The second mod is of the Bowling Pin. I removed the array of 9 LEDs [which had a 'white' beam well into the blue hue]. I put in three 8mm LEDs and it has increased the brightness as well as the color, which is more white with only a tinge of blue. Here's the pic of both.

Now for the beam shot. They are about 8 inches from the wall. Grey Arc on the left, Bowling Pin Mod on the right.

Just a side note. About 15 minutes ago, I was in a very dark area of my office building [basement, no windows] and the Grey Arc did a great job of lighting wherever I pointed it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

The Bowling Pin Mod works well, even though the battery at the moment is down to 2 volts. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Now that Bowling Pin is a mod I could enjoy! I like the way the emitters look in the BP.

So there is overheating problems with either light?

These Bowling Pins have the making of a great host! I've got 15 standing by, waiting for my motivation...however, I am KING Procrastination!

Inspiration? The Bowling Pin makes a great modding platform. There is lots of room in the body and the body's aluminum frame is massive enough to absorb a lot of heat from electronic circuits.

Raging Penguin has a Badboy 650 and the Bowling Pin 'skin' is massive enough to absorb the heat so the BB can be run until the CR123A battery is dead. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/huh.gif

Inspired yet? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I haven't noticed any heat problems. If it eventually dies as a result of heating, I'll just re-mod it perhaps going with a luxeon of some sort.

By the way, AWESOME job on your Raging Penguin! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Let me return the compliment Orion. Very nice job on the Bowling Pin. I love the way the head looks.

Have you seen my latest "Frankenstein" creation? The Bowling Pin > Raging Penguin > Raging Penguin 3AAA? There was not much left to the original Bowling Pin light after this mod.
