Another M@gMod, 2C

I know they've been done and done again, but I think this is a great magmod. Host is a 2C mag with an UCL lens from flashlightlens.com, reflector is a fivemega LOP with the tail machined off and its got a fatman for guts driving a TW0J emitter. This should run for a little over 2 hours on fresh 5000mAh C's and it produces a georgeous beam. Fairly tight but the LOP smooths the bean a touch. Throw is great as I can illuminate the tops of some trees behind my house that are ~100 yds away. This will surely be my workhorse light for a while. If I could find somewhere that would HA3 anodize a 2C m@g for me I'd transfer the innards to that for sure.

As far as I know the FatMan driver is intended for driving between 2 and 4 LuxIII emitters in series (or 1 or 2 LuxV's). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thinking.gif Also Vin (min) = 2.7V and you are using only 2C batteries = 2.4V (I suppose NiMH because you mentioned capacity = 5000mAh). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yep, nominally below the spec of Fatman. The switcher is rated to 2.2V and the opamp to 2.7V. I've run Fatman down to around 2.4V and it runs ok. Below that it starts to go out of regulation as the opamp stops behaving 'correctly'.

I'd had already talked with georges80 about using the fatman and that it wasn't designed for what I was using it for, but it works and is good and bright so I'm happy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
