Another newbie, some opinions please!

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

Thinking of buying the Fenix E01 and the Fenix KM6 Lock Knife, for small easy to carry items, anyone got any opinions on them?

The Fenix E01 is a pretty good keychain light for the price. Runtime is excellent (~11 hours), puts out a lot of usable light and is quite weatherproof (I did a test where I dunked my E01 in a glass of water for 20+ hours and it fired up just fine afterwards). Only downside with this light IMHO is the slightly purple-ish tint which the beam has. But overall I think it is a well built keychain light and it is an excellent value.

Cannot comment on the KM6 Lock Knife or the other stuff in your post since I have not used them or had any experience with them. I am sure someone else will chime in and provide feedback soon, though. :)

is there anything better for this
seems heavy and bulky,
the ROP, afaik, seems to be used with 2 and 3D Mag normally

(2D, if one is able to get 8 AAs inside. Can be a flashlight body boring thing)

I think the mag 6D will make a great host for the ROP. 6x12Ah NiMH D-cells will give you good runtime in a masculine form ;)

You should have ordered the aspheric lens from KD as well :D

I did think of this, however based on what I had read here I thought that would give me too much throw. Need a bit of both for my 3D Mag. Also the lens I think would be prone to damage as it protrudes.

Yeah the 6D Mag is quite pointless, just indulging myself with a weapon like torch, hopefully the ROP will give it the brightness you would expect from a torch that size!

if i can have the same output and runtime in a smaller light ill go with the smaller light.

there are many lights available that are extremely bright with good runtime and VERY small.

no reason to be lugging a 6xD maggie around nowdays.

imo.

$180 + or - a few will buy you one in the custom buy /sell page here on cpf.

now, considering nominal values, runtime should not be "the same" but 6 times more
(= 2 hours, when the small ROP gives about 20 mins)

Having caught the light bug, I have also ordered a 6D Mag, and plan to buy some 1200mAh NIMH and charger.

You mean AA sized 1200mah NiMh? Not D's right?
I would really avoid those old 6D maglites... they make no sense whatsoever anymore... unless you use top quality LSD 10,000mah NiMh or 5,500mah NiCd D cells for a very long lasting hotwire ROP to be stored in a vehicle. But even then...

If you don't mind the large size, the 6D could make a pretty good ROP light. The larger batteries probably also sag less under the draw which could net you a bit more output(presuming D NiMh batteries).

Was thinking of these - http://www.batteryjunction.com/tpeh-td12000.html

Times 6 of course. Had looked at the 10000 mAh LSD's talked of a lot here.

Just to clarify, for actual usage I have bought a Fenix TK11 R2, which I use for work. The 6D ROP thing is just for my own amusement. :twothumbs

The other thing I would like for day to day is something very very small, like the ARC Mania one discussed on another thread recently.

I'm a newbie too, who came from china,
as english is not my mother language, I have some barrieres to talk to everyone,
If there's some mistake I've made, forgive me please.

and I think ultrafire 18650 battery is not a good battery for flashlight,
it prints 2400 MA on the battery skin, but it less than 2000 MA actually,
LG, SAMSUNG,Panasonic 's 18650 battery is better,
